The new facility will add meeting space for many of community organizations and sport leagues as well as people interested in renting the gymnasium and meeting rooms. Last year our community center gymnasium was given out 192 times on an average of two hours each, our meeting room was given out 68 times. Similar towns rent these facilities at approximately $15.00 an hour.

Problems: (1) Sound travels very quick around the curve of the wall creating a disproportional amount of sound on the opposite ends of the arc. (2) Sounds that start in front of the curve gets reflected back to a focal point. The location of that focal point moves depending on where the sound is located. As a result, loud refocused echoes are created at the focal point. When heard, the sounds seem to come from a mysterious place. Collaboration with the Town of Bristol in the fall of 2013 when students in ARCH 415, Advanced Design Studio – Urban, under the guidance of Professor Ulker Copur, studied the waterfront area along the west side of Thames Street, from State Street south to the armory in Bristol, Rhode Island, including the continuation of a public boardwalk through the area linking up with the adjacent properties. The designs created by students would be used to guide the town in developing a master plan for the area and the new Bristol Maritime Welcome

Center.

The marketplace is going to be one of the highlights on Thames Street, serving as a destination for leisure, shopping and dining. The concept of the project is to have indoor space continue out to the water, providing an outdoor space for dining and leisure, but also giving the boardwalk a resting point. The Baptist Church in Warren is located in the Warren Waterfront Historic National Register District. Warren also has a Voluntary Historic District. Both the National Register Nomination and the Voluntary Historic District have regulations which pertain to changes to the exterior view shed of the building. Exterior work on this project will need to abide by the State of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations Rehabilitation Code for existing buildings and structures and the Town of Warren Department of Building and Zoning. A new atrium has been proposed to accommodate the needs of the Barnstable Land Trusts proposed programs. The atrium would provide a well defined, ADA accessible entrance to the building. Design of the new atrium would apply to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for new exterior additions to historic properties. It is recommended that the atrium be constructed on the west façade, after the demolition of 2/3 of the southwest ells.

GuideStar, an online service that provides information on nonprofit organizations in the United States, was used to identify all the nonprofit organizations in downtown Woonsocket, as well as who the executive directors are and the names of people on the board of directors. Internet research was also utilized to access the websites where the students could gather contact information. The names and contact information that were collected were listed in the reference document. The list, to the students’ best abilities, is a comprehensive cross sections of business owners, non-profit leaders, and political leaders.

Most windows in the structure are historic and in fair condition, consisting of double-hung, six-over-six, divided-light windows throughout most of the building and 12-over-8 divided- light windows in the gymnasium. Windows on the first story of the south façade, in the school addition, are wooden and one-over-one.

Historic Preservation

The primary wood columns and secondary wall studs show a variety of conditions. Most notably, the columns at the foundation level have been cut to remove rotted portions and are now supported by concrete footings. The columns on the first floor level have been reinforced with additional pieces of wood. An additive process of building up the structure is evident, although it is not clear if this is historically original or the results of the repair efforts circa 2005.

Chapter seven, of Building Culture,"Rationalization Takes Command: Zeilenbau and the Politics of CIAM," addresses the New Frankfurt housing and settlement initiative at the onset of the depression of 1929. The shift into decline, saw some initiatives completed, others stifled, and new ones emerge. Thus the 1929 CIAM Congress held in Frankfurt began with performances of experimental music, poetry and dance, and ended with the consecration of the existence minimum as the new housing standard. With over 90,000 miles of road in Indiana, it is important that adjoining vegetation be maintained for safety, road structure maintenance and aesthetics. An understanding of vegetation management tools, the disturbance they cause and the effect of that disturbance on the plant community are important when designing an integrated vegetation management (IVM) program. In this study, I examine multiple components of an IVM plan for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), including mowing regimes, selective broadleaf control, plant growth regulators and native species plantings.

Preliminary design work for the Solar Decathlon 2014 entry Techstyle Haus completed in a wintersession 2013 RISD design studio in Erfurt, Germany taught by Jonathan Knowles. The Solar Decathlon competition challenges twenty collegiate teams to design and build sustainable homes that are powered exclusively by solar energy and incorporate sustainable architecture and design. Techstyle Haus is an international Brown University, RISD and University of Applied Sciences Erfurt,Germany collaboration designing a solar passivehaus out of high performance textiles.
