In this thesis project I analyze the destruction of the 2015 earthquake in Nepal, specifically in the structural and architectural collapse. I have focused my research on the areas with greatest documented destruction and vulnerability, specifically Kathmandu and the settlements in the Middle Hills. The introduction of a new lateral testing mechanism can provided much needed information on the seismic strengths of vernacular construction methods.

The purpose of this study is to assess the residents’ perceptions of the waterfront landscapes in man-made environments, specifically in the Las Colinas Urban Center, Irving, Texas. From in-depth interviews and passive observations, this research identifies and reviews the specific landscape design characteristics of waterfront landscapes that influence people’s decisions to live near water. These specific landscape design characteristics are categorized into three dimensions: elements and features, water characteristics, and accessibility. Investigation of the bond between fiber reinforced composites and the substrates onto which they are applied is of critical importance to understand their failure mechanisms. The bond behavior can be studied using different experimental test set-ups; the most commonly used are the single-lap and double-lap direct-shear tests. Although single-lap shear tests are simpler to carry out than double-lap shear tests, the presence of an eccentricity between the pulling and restraining forces leads to a mixed mode fracture process at the interface, which may influence the results. Thus, aquaponics could help address the issue of feeding the growing worldwide population. For several decades, community design centers (CDCs) have specialized in professional design and planning assistance to non-profit groups, agencies, and individuals that lack the funding or resources to otherwise receive such services (ACD 2016). Notwithstanding the historical context under which CDCs were originally created, their persistent presence since the year 2000 has seen the number of CDCs nearly triple in North America, from just under 70, to "over 200 active organizations, covering ever-expanding geographic, disciplinary, and strategic territories" (ACSA 2014, 4).
