Cooperative Housing Design:Exploring Alternative Forms Of Habitation And Pedagogy, Jim Roche

Provision of suitable affordable habitation for all seems to allude society, not least in Ireland which experiences yet another crippling housing crisis. Housing bubbles, which often ruin economies, lead to housing crises which ruin so many lives. Options for habitation delivery are mostly based on the free market, whether they be in the private or the now almost non-existent social and affordable sector. The prevailing procurement methods fail to meet such a basic human need yet alternative options are limited and are not encouraged by government or the private sector.

Working at a women’s social work site in Nicaragua, sparked my initial interest in researching and developing a typology of women’s shelters as an useful guide for determining and providing appropriate services. The goal is to create a typology that can be useful in determining what type of facility or shelter is the most effective for different women and the varying backgrounds and situations they are in. The desire to empower women was initiated by my first-hand experience in Nicaragua. There I saw many instances of intimate partner violence (IPV), as well as other, non-physical, forms of abuse. This research investigates the demographic and local government permit characteristics of communities with high levels of solar adoption in the San Diego Region. Utilizing a statistical model, this research illustrates which communities have been able to benefit from the current solar incentive programs in a robust market with an abundant solar resource. In San Diego, zip codes with large proportions of people over 65 have the highest correlation with high levels of residential solar adoption. This potentially illustrates that the life changes associated with retiring, including accumulated wealth, stable homeownership, and a fixed income, make residential solar systems accessible and …

The objective of this thesis is to explore BIM, IPD and their implementation into a building project contract. The Integrated Delivery Processes is comprised of a collaborative team of Designers, Constructors, and Owners working side by side to create a successful project. Tia Ana’s Sustainable Development is located in the El Salvadorian countryside, just outside of the capital city San Salvador. Currently, Tia Ana’s is located in the city of San Salvador, where there is little room for the children and a significant amount of violence and instability. In order to make the relocation of the orphanage feasible financially, a portion of the countryside landscape will contain a small hotel and numerous small dwellings nested in the tropical surroundings. Until recent years, vertical farming, or urban agriculture, has usually been referred to as more of a science fiction concept than a realistic means of production.
