Systematic Design And Optimization Of Porous Bone Plates Using Taguchi Method And Finite Element Analysis, Aliaa A. Farraj, Tawakol A. Enab, Hanan M. Amer, Mostafa A. ElBahloul 2026 Biomedical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Mansoura University, P.O. 35516 Mansoura, Egypt

Systematic Design And Optimization Of Porous Bone Plates Using Taguchi Method And Finite Element Analysis, Aliaa A. Farraj, Tawakol A. Enab, Hanan M. Amer, Mostafa A. Elbahloul

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Solid bone fixation plates, although clinically effective, often induce stress shielding and impair periosteal blood flow due to their mismatch in stiffness with cortical bone. To overcome these limitations, this study proposes lattice-engineered porous bone plates designed to balance mechanical integrity and biological compatibility. A systematic parametric investigation was conducted by varying three design variables: crystal structure type (diamond, fluorite, and gyroid), porosity levels (50%, 70%, and 90%), and structure layout. Three-dimensional models were developed using nTopology, and finite element analysis (FEA) was performed under a static compressive load to evaluate stress distribution. A Taguchi L9 orthogonal array was employed …

The Density Dilemma: Reconciling Energy Efficiency And Social Well-Being In Compact Housing, Adeb Ebrahim 2026 Amran University, Yemen

The Density Dilemma: Reconciling Energy Efficiency And Social Well-Being In Compact Housing, Adeb Ebrahim

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

This study examines compact housing not only in terms of urban design. From a sequential exploratory mixed-methods approach study on 120 residential units in Sana’a, we observed that there is a paradox where energy modular housing consumes 28% less energy, but social isolation increases 22%. However, this paradox is countered by the design of biophilic shared spaces (β = -0.34). This research establishes a case for more equitably accessible policies on density and proposes that high-density urban fabrics must have a “social connector” code. This study integrates Fainstein's (2020) concept of the 'just city' and contemporary housing innovations into the …

An Assessment Of Biophilic Design Strategies Application In Selected Hostels In A Typical Tertiary Institution, Nigeria., Emokpae Erebor, Foluke Jegede, Pontip Nimlyat, Benjamin Moral

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

Designing spaces that incorporate the principles of biophilic design enhances the buildings occupants closeness to nature while also enhancing spaces connectivity and place conditions. It has environmental, health and other important benefits not only for the environment but also for the human beings that domicile around them. Firstly, this study was carried out using quantitative data obtained from 120 female students of two selected hostel facilities in a typical private University in South-West Nigeria. Secondly, observation is in identifying the actual applications where these strategies have been applied within these hostels through photographic images. This was done by identifying different …

Analysis Of Local Economic Development In The Urban Informal Settlement Upgrading Programs, George K. Nyamu, Luke M. Obala, Owiti A. K'Akumu 2026 University of Nairobi, Kenya

Analysis Of Local Economic Development In The Urban Informal Settlement Upgrading Programs, George K. Nyamu, Luke M. Obala, Owiti A. K'Akumu

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

This study examines the role of local economic development (LED) within informal settlement upgrading, using Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, as a focal case. As one of the most densely populated informal settlements in sub-Saharan Africa, Kibera has been the target of multiple upgrading initiatives intended to improve housing, infrastructure, and living standards. However, the integration of economic development goals into these interventions has often been overlooked or insufficiently conceptualized. Employing a mixed-methods research design—comprising household surveys, key informant interviews with government and NGO actors, and field-based observations—this study investigated the extent to which upgrading programs have influenced local enterprises, economic …

Italian Architectural Heritage In Libya's Old Town Of Al-Marj, Ali Eltraposli 2026 Benghazi University, Libya

Italian Architectural Heritage In Libya's Old Town Of Al-Marj, Ali Eltraposli

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

In the urban heritage, preserving the urban heritage is a priority for countries, as the past constitutes a rich legacy that is an extension of the present in terms of urban form and cultural diversity in people's lives. In addition, it represents an extension of history that helps in understanding the lifestyle in a chronological sequence. Accordingly, the role of international and local organisations came in issuing the necessary legislation to work on maintaining and reviving these cities in a way that preserves the continuity of living in them according to sustainable standards that spread awareness of responsibility and enhance …

Does What Happens In Vegas Increase Pedestrian Safety? A Longitudinal Study On The Effectiveness Of Pedestrian Bridges, Jalen Paulos, Joaquin Miguel Del Mundo, Brock Wentz, Janel Pietryga 2026 University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Does What Happens In Vegas Increase Pedestrian Safety? A Longitudinal Study On The Effectiveness Of Pedestrian Bridges, Jalen Paulos, Joaquin Miguel Del Mundo, Brock Wentz, Janel Pietryga

Department of Orthopaedics Faculty Research

Urban populations continue to rise and the frequency that pedestrians are exposed to vehicular traffic continues to increase. The result is an increase in automobile versus pedestrian collisions. This study aims to determine the efficacy of pedestrian bridges in reducing the rates of automobile‒pedestrian collisions. Data for all automobile versus pedestrian collisions and injuries from July 1997 through December 2023 at four distinct intersections along Las Vegas Boulevard were retrieved from the Nevada Department of Transportation. These sites were chosen because of their historically high rates of automobile versus pedestrian incidents and the construction of pedestrian bridges at three of …
