Anti-washout concrete (AWC) is a special cement-based material that can be directly employed in underwater environments without dispersion. It was developed around 50 years ago, and more than 150 journal articles and technical reports have been published. This paper provides a holistic review about the basic fresh-state and hardened-state properties of the AWC, such as water (washout) resistance, consistency, bleeding and segregation resistance, mechanical properties, and durability, as well as relevant testing methods. The discrepancies between AWC's characteristics and those of conventional concrete are clearly presented. Our country’s largest cities have become more racially and ethnically diverse than they were in 2010 (US News, 2020). Differences are present and yet, our cemeteries, originally catering to a predominantly Caucasian market (Sloane, 1991), remain Eurocentric in design (Jones, 2011). The purpose of this master’s design thesis is to determine the design principles and elements necessary for a cemetery that is transformed by the personal expressions exhibited by visitors after the day of burial. The present work focuses on the steel fiber distribution in self-consolidating concrete short beams. The objective is to assess the feasibility of the ground penetrating radar (GPR) in evaluating the homogeneity of fibers within concrete materials, for use in testing laboratories to study the modes of placing and compaction employed for preparing specimens during quality control or material development. Self-consolidating concrete beams were cast, tested, and evaluated. A GPR survey employing a concrete scanning system with a shielded 1.2 GHz center frequency was performed on self-consolidating casted short beams just before a monotonic four-point bending test was carried out. It also contributes significantly to the building's heat burden. WWR and glazing systems are the most significant factors that affect the electrical lighting and cooling energy consumption of a building. Landscape architects and designers have the ability to construct plantings in a landscape with native or non-native plants, or a combination of both plant types. The question at hand is, why choose one over the other? This study explores what might impact the plant choice decisions of practicing landscape architects in the southeast United States. A survey is utilized to understand how respondents make plant choice decisions and perceive native plants. Comparisons between previous studies are made focusing on their distribution methods, survey populations and major findings. The findings of this study are not conclusive due to a small response …

Designing cities for thermal comfort is an important priority in a warming and urbanizing world. As temperatures in cities continue to break extreme heat records, it is necessary to develop and test new approaches capable of tracking human thermal sensations influenced by microclimate conditions, complex urban geometries, and individual charac-teristics in dynamic settings. Thermal walks are a promising novel research method to address this gap.
