Challenging Homogenization: Identity In The Design Concepts Of Contemporary High-Rise Architecture In Bangkok, Chalaka Wijenayake

The dominance of high-rise architecture in globalized urban landscapes has arguably raised concerns about the homogenization of cities and the decline of local identity. As vertical structures become essential components of contemporary metropolises, they pose unique challenges in negotiating cultural and contextual relevance. While often critiqued for their perceived detachment from place, some high-rises attempt to assert localized identities without reverting to superficial mimicry. This research engages with these tensions by analyzing five high-rise buildings in Bangkok—a vibrant, cosmopolitan, and non-Western urban setting—through the lens of Critical Regionalism, despite its known limitations when applied to large-scale architecture. บ้านจีนดั้งเดิมริมฝั่งแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาเป็นมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมอันทรงคุณค่าที่สะท้อนถึงประวัติศาสตร์การตั้งถิ่นฐานและวิถีชีวิตของชาวจีนในกรุงเทพฯ มาอย่างยาวนาน แต่ปัจจุบันบ้านจีนดั้งเดิมเหล่านี้กำลังเผชิญปัญหาความเสื่อมสภาพ การถูกทิ้งร้าง และการรื้อถอนซึ่งส่งผลให้คุณค่าและความแท้ของมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมกำลังสูญหายไป งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาสภาพปัจจุบันด้านกายภาพ บริบทที่ตั้ง และการใช้งานของบ้านจีนดั้งเดิมเพื่อวิเคราะห์คุณค่า ความแท้ และความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่ส่งผลกระทบต่อการสูญเสียคุณค่า โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ จากการศึกษาแนวคิดและหลักการอนุรักษ์ พร้อมสำรวจภาคสนามและรวบรวมข้อมูลทางประวัติศาสตร์ กรณีศึกษา 4 หลัง ได้แก่ โรงน้ำปลาทั่งง่วนฮะ, บ้านโปษ์กี่, บ้านรัชต์บริรักษ์ และบ้านเอ๊งฮอกต๋อง โดยมุ่งเน้นการวิเคราะห์เชิงลึกด้านกายภาพ บริบทที่ตั้ง การใช้งาน และการเปลี่ยนแปลงของแต่ละกรณีศึกษา ผลการวิจัยพบว่า คุณค่าของบ้านจีนดั้งเดิม คือ การปรับบ้านให้เข้ากับทุกยุคทุกสมัย แม้จะได้รับอิทธิพลจากบ้านจีนดั้งเดิมที่เป็นต้นแบบในประเทศจีน ทั้งในด้านผังอาคาร การจัดวางพื้นที่ใช้สอย และองค์ประกอบทางสถาปัตยกรรม แต่ยังคงมีการปรับประยุกต์ให้เหมาะสมกับวิถีชีวิตและบริบทที่ตั้งของพื้นที่ริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา ความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้นกับบ้านจีนดั้งเดิมริมฝั่งแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาที่ไม่สามารถหลีกเลี่ยงได้ คือ การเสื่อมทางกายภาพ การเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสภาพแวดล้อม และการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางสังคมและการใช้สอย จนส่งผลให้คุณค่าและความแท้ของบ้านจีนดั้งเดิมลดน้อยลงไป โดยสรุป ในการอนุรักษ์บ้านจีนดั้งเดิมเพื่อรักษาคุณค่า ต้องมีการทำความเข้าใจตัวอาคารและที่ตั้งสภาพแวดล้อมโดยรอบ เพื่อนำมาประเมินสภาพปัจจุบันและการเปลี่ยนแปลงของพื้นที่ จนนำไปสู่การประเมินคุณค่าในทุกด้าน ทั้งในแง่ของประวัติศาสตร์ สถาปัตยกรรม จิตวิญญาณ เศรษฐกิจ และจำเป็นต้องศึกษาปัจจัยต่าง ๆ เพื่อนำมากำหนดวัตถุประสงค์และเลือกวิธีการอนุรักษ์จนนำไปสู่การปรับการใช้งานให้เหมาะสมกับอาคารต่อไปอย่างยั่งยืน

Located in Lichtenberg, Berlin (part of the former borough of Hohenschönhausen), Gedenkstätte Berlin-Hohenschönhausen stands today as a memorial for the thousands who were killed and imprisoned there, from its construction in 1939 until its closure in 1990. This paper will trace the evolution of Hohenschönhausen from a physical space of confinement, to a sophisticated psychological apparatus designed to exert control over its political prisoners through the development of “Operative Psychology” (OP). Specifying the house type of a housing development project is extremely necessary. However, the determination of a project type nowadays has become a delicate matter, requiring the expertise and knowledge of seasoned project developers. This study aimed to apply four machine learning techniques: Decision Tree, Random Forest, Gradient Boosted Tree and Ensemble Classifier, to analyze the data from 179 housing estate projects collected from market reports of real estate companies in Thailand, with a focus on selecting projects with average monthly sales rates that are higher than the average of all acquired projects. The airborne nature of COVID-19 dispersion has considerably impacted architectural and ventilation system designs. This research studies the COVID-19 infection risk in typical naturally ventilated detached houses in Thailand. Influencing parameters include the opening size and location of the infected person. Computational Fluid Dynamic was used to simulate the virus spreading in major spaces including the master bedroom, a bedroom and the living room. This study examines the architectural and urban transformation of Sam Phraeng, a historic Bangkok precinct, during King Rama V's reign (1868-1910). Employing Maurizio Peleggi's concept of 'Selective Modernity' and Iderlina B. This study aimed to predict household expenditure using a combination of survey and geospatial data. A web-based application operating on the Google Earth Engine platform has been specifically developed for this research, providing a set of satellite-based indicators. These data were spatially averaged at the district level and integrated with household nonfood expenditures, a proxy of socioeconomic conditions, derived from the World Bank’s 2019 Living Standards Measurement Study (LSMS). Four machine learning algorithms were applied. การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1. ศึกษาทบทวนแผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคารของกรุงเทพมหานคร 2. ศึกษาปัญหาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับแผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคารของกรุงเทพมหานคร 3. เพื่อเสนอแนะคู่มือรายการตรวจสอบ (Check list) แผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคารเป็นแนวทางในการแก้ปัญหาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับแผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคารของกรุงเทพมหานคร เป็นการศึกษาวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพที่มีการรวบรวมข้อมูล จัดกลุ่มกฎหมาย จัดทำคู่มือรายการตรวจสอบ (Check list) และสัมภาษณ์กลุ่มตัวอย่างแล้วนำมาวิเคราะห์เปรียบเทียบข้อมูลและสรุปผล ผลการศึกษาพบว่า 1. การพิจารณาข้อกฎหมายที่เกี่ยวข้องกับแผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคารจำเป็นต้องพิจารณากฎหมายร่วมกันหลายฉบับ โดยในแผนผังแบบแปลนที่ประกอบด้วยข้อกฎหมายหลายหัวข้อมากที่สุดคือ แผนผังบริเวณ 2. จากการสัมภาษณ์ผู้ที่มีความเกี่ยวข้องกับการยื่นขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคารจำนวน 9 คน ในเรื่องปัญหาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับแผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคาร พบว่าในกลุ่มผู้ปฏิบัติวิชาชีพพบปัญหาการค้นหาข้อกฎหมายที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการออกแบบ, ปัญหาข้อกฎหมายซ้ำซ้อนหรือขัดแย้งกัน, และปัญหาความเข้าใจของผู้พิจารณาคำขออนุญาตและผู้ยื่นขออนุญาตไม่ตรงกัน ขณะที่กลุ่มผู้พิจารณาอนุญาตพบปัญหาการค้นหาข้อกฎหมายที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการพิจารณาอนุญาต, ปัญหาความเข้าใจของผู้พิจารณาอนุญาตและผู้ยื่นขออนุญาตไม่ตรงกัน, และปัญหาในการอ่านแผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคาร 3. ในส่วนคู่มือรายการตรวจสอบ (Check list) แผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคารพบว่ากลุ่มตัวอย่างเห็นด้วยเป็นจำนวน 12 ความคิดเห็นและมองว่ามีความเป็นไปได้ที่จะช่วยแก้ไขปัญหาที่เกี่ยวข้องกับแผนผังแบบแปลนในการขออนุญาตก่อสร้างอาคาร ควรนำไปพัฒนาเพิ่มเติมและทดสอบการใช้งานจริงต่อไป

Riverview Community Park began as an illegal DIY skatepark in the Maymont neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia. Now, although it is a city park, it is still entirely managed by volunteer community groups (skateboarders, the neighborhood Civic League, and a community garden) who view the park as a creative, experimental community-led spatial project.
