Being prepared to treat these symptoms as well as addressing your patient's emotional needs is imperative. Referral to a hospice, if possible, will only strengthen the …

Community Health Sciences

Over the past few years, the issue of what is meant by “good governance” has generated increasing attention and debate both at the national and international level [Streeten (1997)]. The role of state and how that role is to be exercised is appearing high on the agenda of politicians, policy-makers and academicians in the developing world. Governance has been defined by the World Bank as “the manner in which power is exercised in the management of the country’s economic and social resources” [World Bank (1994)]. The somewhat narrow scope of this definition has been broadened in recent years to “the …

Physicians And Surgeons--The Expanding Role Of The Physician's Assistant, Joseph S. Beeson Feb 1974

Physicians And Surgeons--The Expanding Role Of The Physician's Assistant, Joseph S. Beeson

West Virginia Law Review

The shortage of health care professionals in West Virginia today is a matter of grave concern, especially to inhabitants of rural areas where professional medical care is often nonexistent. Statistics are indicative of the problem, but do not reveal the entire picture. For example, in the United States today, there are approximately 171 physicians per 100,000 population. In West Virginia, each 100,000 persons is served by only 111 physicians. This figure alone is cause enough for concern, but the seriousness of the situation is more accurately indicated by the distribution of the physician population. West Virginia is primarily a rural …
