With the advancement of computational capabilities, there is growing interest in
developing intricate models for composite materials. This has been historically chal-
lenging due to the multifaceted interactions and failure mechanisms of these materi-
als. Multiscale modeling holds promise for predicting the intricate dynamics of such
materials. A foundational understanding of their microscale behaviors is critical, par-
ticularly the interfacial interactions between the fiber and matrix. This study delves
into the influence of fiber volume fraction (FVF) on fiber pull-out tests, focusing
on the impact of neighboring fibers across different geometries and the underlying
cohesive properties.

This study focuses on supporting the development of safety regulations for vulnerable populations during drone to head impacts. First, the small female head and neck model was compared to cadaveric data. Then, combined with lab’s previous work, gender-based disparities in head impact responses were highlighted, with small females experiencing higher injury risk metrics, despite lower skull von Mises stress. The glenohumeral joint (GH) is commonly conceptualized as a ball-and-socket joint [1], and its center of rotation (COR) is presumed to coincide with the geometric center of the medial-superior region of the humeral head [2]. Concussion assessment in athletes has gained prominence due to potential long-term consequences of traumatic brain injuries. Evaluating balance alterations is crucial for understanding post-injury motor control strategies. This study introduces a novel approach to understanding center of pressure (COP) dynamics during quiet stance tasks for assessing balance impairments in athletes recovering from concussion. Concussed athletes often experience impaired motor function and cognitive deficits, increasing the risk of orthopedic injury. This thesis presents the development of Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) algorithms for multi-spacecraft assembly in proximity operations. A 3-DOF mathematical model of spacecraft relative translational motion is derived using the Euler-Lagrange method. Additionally, a 6-DOF mathematical model of spacecraft relative translational and rotational motion is derived using the twistor method, with consideration for the kinematic coupling effect. A new Linear Time-Invariant (LTI) model is developed based on the twistor model, which is utilized in the design of the GNC systems. This dissertation focused on modeling specimen-specific soft tissue structures in the context of joint replacement surgery. The research addressed four key aspects. The first study involved developing a workflow for creating finite element models of the hip capsule to replicate its torque-rotational response. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a form of arthritis that develops in the joint due to overuse and aging causing pain, discomfort, and disability. Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) is a surgical procedure performed when OA symptoms are severe with an estimated 600,000 patients in the United States currently receiving TKA. Studies have reported dissatisfaction of the knee for 14-39% of patients. In this study the tensile properties at different loading rates as well as shear properties of a direct-compounded compression-moulded Polyamide6 (PA6)/glass long fibre thermoplastic (LFT-D) material with a fibre weight content of 30% were investigated. The effects of moisture on the anisotropic mechanical and material properties of Glass/PA6 LFT materials were examined by testing at four different material directions of 0°, +45°, ˗45°, and 90°. Conventional single phase heat transfer theory was not developed to capture this nonlinear variation in properties and cannot predict the heat transfer characteristics of sCO2 to a practical level useful for design. However, there is limited data linking biomechanical measurements of generally healthy young adults to their physical activity levels assessed through questionnaires.
