New algorithms for generating a regular two-dimensional layout representation for multi-output, incompletely specified Boolean functions, called, Pseudo-Symmetric Binary Decision Diagrams (PSBDDs), are presented. The regular structure of the function representation allows accurate prediction of post-layout areas and delays before the layout is physically generated. It simplifies power estimation on the gate level and allows for more accurate power optimization. The theoretical background of the new diagrams, which are based on ideas from contact networks, and the form of decision diagrams for symmetric functions is discussed. We present new experimental Windows 95/98/NT software for investigation of graph properties of boolean (in particular, Reed-Muller) logic with an equal number n of inputs and outputs (called movement functions). Realized at the input of an n-bit register, such functions create autonomous Finite State Machines (FSMs). TRACE software system allows the user to visualize State Transition Graphs (STGs) of the autonomous FSMs. Other features of TRACE help explore graph properties of function families. Groundwater artificial storage and recovery (ASR) has become a favorable means in the arid west to store water produced in excess of need during winter months for use in drier times of the year. ASR may be accomplished by injection of suitable water into the groundwater system via wells to be pumped out later, or by recovery of seepage via wells from surface water impoundments or infiltration networks. This report will present pertinent hydrogeologic information for the location of an artificial groundwater storage and recovery project in Utah's northeastern Box Elder County.

Traditionally fed-batch biochemical process optimization and control uses complicated theoretical off-line optimizers, with no online model adaptation or re-optimization. This study demonstrates the applicability, effectiveness, and economic potential of a simple phenomenological model for modeling, and an adaptive critic design, generalized dual heuristic programming, for online re-optimization and control of an aerobic fed-batch fermentor. This paper presents the design of a robust controller for a turbogenerator. The robust controller is an artificial neural network (ANN) that is trained offline on a family of ANN models of the turbogenerator. This ANN controller augments/replaces the traditional automatic voltage controller (AVR) and the turbine governor of the generator. Simulation results are presented to show that the ANN controller is robust when the transmission line configuration changes.

A hollow metal cylinder with a semicircle in the base is used as the shield of a hemispherical dielectric resonator with whispering gallery (WG) modes. It is shown that the spectrum of the WG modes of this resonator is clearer than the spectrum of a similar resonator with a hemispherical shield. It is determined that the high-Q-factor WG modes are excited in the proposed resonator by the coupling slot on the mirror. Their fields are localized in the dielectric. Environmental effects of every process phase are then analyzed and evaluated based on the environmental and resource management data. Computation and communication times result in delays between measurements and updating of the new frame in the head mounted display(HMD). These delays result in problems, including motion sickness. In this paper, novel two-quadrant buck/boost and one-quadrant boost four-level DC/DC converters are introduced. The primary application for these converters is that of interfacing a low voltage DC source, such as a fuel cell or battery, to a high-voltage four-level inverter. One important feature of the four-level DC/DC converters proposed herein is the ability to perform the power conversion and balance the inverter capacitor voltages simultaneously. With the capacitor voltage balancing, it is possible to obtain the full voltage from the inverter. For the boost converter, the steady-state and nonlinear average-value (NLAM) models are developed. However, polymers tend to become brittle with age, especially when exposed to elevated temperature. It is necessary to understand the physical changes in a material during the aging process in order to predict the long-term behavior.
