Snow Pack Temperature Sensor, M. Shamshi, Raman Attri, V. Sharma Sep 1996

Snow Pack Temperature Sensor, M. Shamshi, Raman Attri, V. Sharma

Raman K. Attri

The study of snow hydrological characteristics plays the major part in forecast of snow-melt, snow run-off water of rivers, potential release of snow avalan'che and climatic changes. Increasing importance of study of snow hydrology has lead to the development of many snow sensors which monitors physical parameter of snow. Design of such snow sensors has been a difficult job because of harsh environmental conditions. This paper present the design considerations and performance characteristics of snowpack temperature profile sensing probe. This probe provides temperature gradient and temperature distributions within the snow-pack, and ground at different depths. The information on temperature distribution …

Reconfigurable Intelligent Optical Backplane For Parallel Computing And Communications, Ted H. Szymanski, Harvard Scott Hinton Jan 1996

Reconfigurable Intelligent Optical Backplane For Parallel Computing And Communications, Ted H. Szymanski, Harvard Scott Hinton

H. Scott Hinton

A reconfigurable intelligent optical backplane architecture for parallel computing and communications is described. The backplane consists of a large number of reconfigurable optical channels organized in a ring with relatively simple point-to-point optical interconnections between neighboring smart-pixel arrays. The intelligent backplane can implement (l) dynamically reconfigurable connections between any printed circuit boards, (2) dynamic embeddings of classical interconnection networks such as buses, rings, multidimensional meshes, hypercubes, shuffles, and crossbars, (3) multipoint switching, (4) sorting, (5) parallel-prefix operations, (6) pattern-matching operations, (7) snoopy caches and intelligent memory systems, and (8) media-access control functions. The smart-pixel arrays can be enhanced to include …

Application Of The Industrial Expert System For The Choice Of The Electric Motors Of The Cement Factory Of Meftah, Algeria (Système Expert Industriel D’Aide Au Choix Des Moteurs Asynchrones En Cimenterie), Boukhemis Chetate , Cherif Kara, M. Fenneche Dec 1995

Fenneche

Boukhemis Chetate

Load Forecasting Using Genetic Algorithms, D. K. Chaturvedi, R. K. Mishra, A. Agarwal Nov 1995

Load Forecasting Using Genetic Algorithms, D. K. Chaturvedi, R. K. Mishra, A. Agarwal

D. K. Chaturvedi Dr.

Genetic Algorithms (GAs) are gaining popularity in many engineering and scientific applications due to their enormous advantages such as adaptibility, ability to handle non-linear, ill defined and probabilistic problems. In this paper load forecasting problem on long term basis is formulated in the frame work of Genetic Algorithms. The results of GAs are compared with the central Electricity Authority (CEA) forecasted data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

Exoerience With The Analysis Of Small Signal Stability In Longitudinal Power Systems: A Case Study With The Mexican Interconnected System, Arturo Roman Messina

A. R. Messina

In this paper a fundamental study of the small signal stability characteristics of a longitudinal system representing a major equivalent of the Mexican power system is presented. The special characteristics of the Mexican system are emphasized and a number of studies regarding the nature and sources of low frequency oscillations are discussed. These studies reveal the emergence of an undamped swing mode #tvolving the interaction of several machines and their controllers spread out over a large geographical area. The influence of system structure and loading, load effect and the

Possible Applications Of Neural Nets To Power System Operation And Control, P. K. Kalra, Alok Srivastava, D. K. Chaturvedi Dec 1992

Possible Applications Of Neural Nets To Power System Operation And Control, P. K. Kalra, Alok Srivastava, D. K. Chaturvedi

D. K. Chaturvedi Dr.

Problems related to power system operation and control are complex and time consuming because of the non-linearities involved in their formulation and solution. Fast solutions to these problems can be obtained only through parallel processing. Neural nets provide massive parallel processing facilities and may also be used efficiently to model systems with non-linearities. The capabilities of neural nets can, therefore, be well utilized in modelling and processing problems related to power systems. In order to reduce the burden on computers, algorithms involving optimization and complex equations can be converted to heuristics. These heuristics can then be represented in terms of …

Gain Enhancement Of Dielectric Resonator Loaded Waveguide Antennas With Dielectric Overlays, M. Hakkak, Hossein Ameri Mahabadi Mar 1992

Gain Enhancement Of Dielectric Resonator Loaded Waveguide Antennas With Dielectric Overlays, M. Hakkak, Hossein Ameri Mahabadi

Hossein Ameri Mahabadi

The gain characteristics of a dielectric resonator loaded coaxial probe fed circular waveguide antenna (DRLWA) with overlaying parasitic discs have been investigated experimentally. Results indicate that, when properly spaced, the overlays can enhance the gain by more than 6 dB.
