Men Of Peoria In The Civil War, Raymond Wesley Sanders Jan 1960

Men Of Peoria In The Civil War, Raymond Wesley Sanders

Theses and Dissertations

The candidate has always been particularly interested in the Civil War period of American history. This interest was stimulated further by his study under Dr. Lucy Lucile Tasher in the course, "Lincoln: the Man and His Times." As the candidate was a teacher at East Peoria Community High School at the time, the idea of writing a local history research study on the role of the Peoria soldiers in the Civil War was both appealing and challenging. During the study, the candidate has tried to adhere to the educational research requirements of reliability, objectivity, validity, and historical accuracy, through the …

Personality Differences Of Sophomore Junior College Talented Achievers And Underachievers, William Di Pace

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Are there personality characteristics statistically significant and of relatively large enough differences to make distinctions between talented achievers and underachievers? Would an identification of those personality characteristics be a necessary value to the institution of remedial procedures that might assist them in the realization of their maximal potential? What are the means by which a talented student is to be measured, aside from intellectual diagnostic procedures, that indicate this particular potential in certain areas or his ability to achieve in academic subjects by G.P.A. designation? Business-Sponsored Films For Physical Science, Bertha Elizabeth Slye Jan 1960

Business-Sponsored Films For Physical Science, Bertha Elizabeth Slye

Masters Theses

For many years business-sponsored films have been used widely in instruction in the science classroom. Because of the potential of the films in helping teachers bridge the gap between the fundamental teaching of scientific principles, and the applications found in the actual experiences of the student's consumer world, requests for them have often exceeded the output of those that are educationally sound. In the last decade in particular, the development of atomic and space technology, as well as the growing interest in science, have made it necessary to teach science beyond the confines of information in the ordinary science textbook. …

An Historical Study Of Hesperian College, Woodland, California, From 1861 To 1896, Haworth Alfred Clover

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Today, one hundred years after the founding of this school, records, programs, catalogues, and other data concerning the school have become scattered throughout California. Data located in historical depositories are sparse and incomplete. Much information lies in the hands of private persons not known or available to the general public.

From generation to generation it becomes increasingly difficult to locate data concerning earlier generations and often the data have been unknowingly destroyed. The main purpose for this project then, is to preserve knowledge of this early California school in a single source for the reference of future historians.

A Study Of The Supervisory Activities Of The Teacher-Principal In Selected Elementary Schools In San Joaquin, Stanislaus And Sacramento Counties, John K. Morris Jan 1960

A Study Of The Supervisory Activities Of The Teacher-Principal In Selected Elementary Schools In San Joaquin, Stanislaus And Sacramento Counties, John K. Morris

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Supervision is interpreted in various ways by teacher principals as a result of the differences in their background training, and experience. Some realize that good supervisory activities involve the stimulation of professional growth; others give a sigh of relief at the end of their teaching day and have little time for supervisory activities; and still, other teacher-principals look upon the goal of supervision as a perpetuation of their personal teaching blueprints. This diversity of interpretation is in itself evidence of need for a better understanding of the true supervisory obligations of the teacher-principal. It is the function of good supervision …

Historical Study And Adaptation Of Hawaiian Folk Dances For Physical Education Classes, Sharon Rosa Hines Jan 1960

Historical Study And Adaptation Of Hawaiian Folk Dances For Physical Education Classes, Sharon Rosa Hines

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The present material that would be acceptable in the high school physical education class required a study of the various types of dances from Hawaii. There appeared to be two main classifications of dance forms: the modern and ancient. In the modern form, hip, torso, simple and intricate step patterns, as well as hand and arm motions, are used to convey the meaning and rhythm of the music . This style is not readily adaptable to the high school situation, nor does it lend itself to transmission by written form. The ancient danses, on the other hand, relied upon the …

A Comprehensive Study To Determine The Teachers' Role In Politics, Hollie Wilford Crawford Jan 1960

A Comprehensive Study To Determine The Teachers' Role In Politics, Hollie Wilford Crawford

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

For many years a difference of opinion has existed regarding the role, if any, that a teacher should play in the political life of the community. There existed, and still exists, a great variance of opinion even on the part of teachers as to their political role. Some would have teachers set themselves completely apart from anything that even remotely resembles politics. Others would have teachers become deeply involved in the political life of the community. Heretofore no basis for participation in politics has been given other than personal opinion.

Should teachers participate in partisan politics? This single question states …
