Traditionally, home economics majors and foods and nutrition majors in most colleges and universities have been able to bring their professional theoretical background to a climax with a practical living experience. This has been the policy at Utah State University, fulfilled in Household Administration, Course No. 150. Although the students entering this course are products of different backgrounds and cultural habits, it is assumed that their common home economics background in the University would allow them to manage a home efficiently. The statistical trend toward an increasing number of early marriages in the United States is causing concern for parents and community officials (21). The average age of marriage has been declining since 1890. Half of the girls are now married by the time they are twenty and half of the men by the time they are twenty-three (13). In a study made by Landis (20) of marriages in California high schools, 90 percent of the senior high schools reported one or more student marriages. The purpose of this study was to determine if parents change in their attitudes toward child guidance after participating in a Cooperative Nursery School Parent Education Program. The study was conducted in the Fall of 1959 in the Weber College Department of Family Life.

Control and experimental groups were used. The experimental group was made up of forty mothers and father who were enrolled in the Parent Education Program and whose children were enrolled in the nursery school. The control group was made up of forty mothers and fathers whose children were on the waiting list of the nursery school. …

Straddling the Continental Divide, from the Chuska Mountains t o the San Juan and Little Colorado rivers, mostly in Arizona, but partly in New Mexico and Utah, lies 23,574 square miles of desert; home to the estimated 75 to 90 thousand Navajo Indians. They learned something of our American way of life and enjoyed it enough to want to share in it. They knew that to be able to compete with others they would have to get an education and be able to speak English. When these veterans and defense workers returned to the reservation after the war, they started a movement to get the children into school. This movement grew until 91 percent of all school age children were in school in 1957 compared with 32 percent in 1945 when the movement started.
