It can be difficult to help struggling kindergarten students learn pre-reading skills with limited resources. Trained community volunteers can make an impact on student literacy learning while forming positive relationships with students as they deliver a prescribed curriculum. This project explores the value of Professional Learning Communities (PLC), school and district support, the use of collaboration time, intervention, pre-reading essential standards, community support and PLC self-assessment. There has been an increasing number of Black students entering into higher education, but they continue to have disparities in academic achievement when compared to White students. An institution's campus climate has been found to influence student success. This study seeks to examine the factor of campus climate, specifically negative campus racial climate (NCRC), as it relates to the GPA and university satisfaction of Black students at a rural institution. The study adds to the literature by exploring the degree to which involvement (Faculty (FOI) and Club/Organization Involvement (COI)) may act as a moderating force within the relationship.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to synthesize findings from physical activity interventions on children and adolescents with Down syndrome.

Design: The present study employed a quantitative research synthesis design. The overall conclusions of past research highlight important issues related to physical activity interventions performed on children and adolescents with Down syndrome.

Methods: Standard meta-analytic procedures incorporating inclusion and exclusion criteria, literature search, coding procedures, and statistical methods were used to identify and synthesize 24 studies with 258 independent samples. Cohen’s (1988) criteria for effect sizes were used to interpret and evaluate results.

It considers various aspects, concepts and implementations of arts education and the academic benefits that result. This paper reports on the ongoing digital implementation of one-to-one digital devices in the middle school science classroom, examining existing goals, the history and use, and offers a professional development course designed to engage teachers to improve their practices. This work examines teacher efficacy in the classroom and highlights teachers’ views on the emerging push for one-to-one student centered learning. A review of the best practices and research literature resulted in the implementation and evaluation of an after-school program for a small rural school in Northern California. The program is designed to overcome some unique challenges for rural schools by offering after school instructional support, homework assistance, and enrichment opportunities that work together to create a rich and successful environment to support student growth. A program evaluation survey measured parents’/guardians’ satisfaction with the program demonstrating significant support after two years. This study seeks to find if drawing can help English Language Learning (ELL) students better understand and retain science content. Seventh and eighth grade students were given series of presentations about Pluto. Half of the students were asked to write only written notes while the other half was asked to both draw and write down notes during the presentations. This thesis examines through qualitative data how the dominant narrative shapes the experiences of women in France who wear hijab and in the United States who wear hijab or niqab at educational institutions. This research focuses on what roles do cultural symbolism, colonial ideology and political propaganda play in continuing the dominant narrative in this context in both France and the United States. This study further advocates based on its findings that educational institutions must promote more cross-cultural dialog and a larger representation of accurate depictions of Muslim women. Teachers face difficult decisions when determining whether or not to use interactive e-Books in the classroom. One in every 20 children is affected by ADHD. PURPOSE: To examine the effect between physical activity participation and externalizing behaviors (conduct and hyperactivity) among children with and without ADHD. This Master’s Project focuses on advanced-level English learners' acquisition of discipline-specific vocabulary as they transition from intensive English programs into English-medium university coursework. During this period, the number of discipline-specific terms students must master quickly and independently can be overwhelming. To address this problem, this M.A. Project argues that vocabulary-acquisition strategies should be foregrounded in intensive English programs, and that instructors should train students to supplement traditional vocabulary learning methods with independent concordancing strategies.
