The purpose of this qualitative research study was to explore the practices and perceptions of educators implementing a schoolwide SEL curriculum. This study sought to identify aspects that promote and prevent effective SEL programming in schools by answering the following questions: How do educators implement SEL curriculum in a diverse school setting? The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine the perceptions of successful aging of middle-aged African American men. African American men continue to have the worst health status of all ethnic groups. This study explored middle-aged African American men who identified themselves as free of any physical or cognitive issues. The study explored how the men maintained their health while avoiding a primary care provider and health care system with a history of mistreatment and discrimination. The research study provided additional information about successful aging and the lived experience of those participants.

This study implemented goal setting and self-reflection as self-regulated learning strategies and explored how these affected student work completion and on-task behavior. Students in this environment struggled with self-regulated learning and were observed to not complete work on time and needed redirection to focus on work during the work cycle. The study took place in an upper elementary Montessori environment at a private international school. Thirteen 4th grade students (ages 9-10) participated in the study. Teachers experience high levels of stress due to the demands of their profession. The purpose of this study is to determine how engaging in ten minutes of mindfulness each day can affect teacher stress and student behavior in a. The researcher-participant was a female teacher in a private, suburban school. The Effects Of Daily Explicit Phonics Instruction On Reading Fluency In First Grade, Allison M. Johnson

The purpose of this paper was to examine the effects of daily phonics instruction on first grade oral reading fluency scores. This 10-week intervention took place in a suburban first grade classroom through whole group and small group instruction. Data was collected using a pre and post confidence interview, weekly written formative assessments, standardized testing, and seasonal benchmark fluency testing. An increase in oral reading fluency was demonstrated following the implementation of daily phonics instruction, but not significant enough to say that the phonics instruction was the sole reasoning for the small increase in fluency scores. A large body of research indicates use of praise as a response to appropriate behavior is an effective classroom management strategy to increase appropriate behavior and decrease problem behavior. Since prior research also suggested that teachers tend to have more negative interactions with students than positive ones, use of a specific praise to reprimand ratio is commonly recommended in teacher preparation programs and professional development. Awake craniotomy and language assessment procedures for brain tumor survivors can drastically affect patient outcomes and quality of life. The goal of intra-operative language mapping is to help preserve vital communicative functions. However, there is currently no standardized set of measures for intra-operative language assessment. This systematic review identified behavioral language measures used during intra-operative procedures and the resulting outcomes for adult brain tumor patients, with the aim of helping clinicians and researchers select intra-operative language assessments supported by the highest levels of evidence.

The purpose of this explanatory sequential, mixed methods research study was to identify the perceptions of school resource officers (SROs) regarding high school students with disabilities and their preparedness to work with this population, as a result of their SRO training. This study involved a national quantitative survey of SROs working in public high schools, followed by one-on-one interviews from the same sample to allow for a deeper analysis of the survey results and develop a theory on how training impacts SRO preparedness and their perceptions of high school students with disabilities. Children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) often demonstrate difficulty communicating with others, and this may impact the extent to which they can engage in language during play. Previous researchers have used interventions to increase commenting during play with caregivers, siblings, and adult play partners. In these previous studies, researchers have taught participants to use text-based or audio recorded scripted phrases to facilitate communication. Scientific argumentation is a core scientific practice. Although scientific argumentation has been linked to increased learning of scientific content, improved reading, writing, and critical thinking, traditional science classrooms have not included scientific argumentation. Teachers often have little experience learning or teaching science through argumentation and need support to integrate this complex practice of science into their classrooms. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of delivery method on the nutrition, food resource management (FRM), and physical activity behavior of participants enrolled in either Create Better Health’s in-person or online courses. The pre-survey and post-survey included data on nutrition, FRM, and physical activity behaviors. The researcher analyzed preexisting data from 138 SNAP-eligible adults who participated in Create Better Health’s online and in-person courses.

Results showed similar improvements in most of the nutrition and physical activity behaviors among those who took the CBH courses online or in-person. The online course showed statistically higher scores for four …

The purpose of this study was to examine the predictive ability of MCAT scores on the pre-clinical grade point averages of Black medical students. Underrepresented in medicine students, including students of color and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds have often been prevented from pursuing medical education. In the current study, I aim to expand upon traditional methods for classifying children based on positive peer nominations and contribute to the field’s understanding of high-status bullies who maintain social resources despite bulling behaviors (e.g., van der Ploeg et al., 2020). Both reciprocated and one-sided (i.e., received and sent) positive peer nominations were used to distinguish socially meaningful subgroups. This dissertation uses a discourse studies approach to investigate key communicative processes by which digital technology is given situated meanings within the institution of public education, including at the level of official discourse, administrative texts, and the spoken discourse of professional educators. The discursive processes under analysis, referred to here as “institutional media ideologies,” arguably function as discursive frameworks which, akin to tactics of management in organizations, constrain the further production of discourse in a particular professional domain, including through the codification of contextualization practices, participant roles, and the social meanings of practices implicating the use of digital technology. This study aims to examine the relationship between Northwest Arkansas K-6 teachers’ cultural competence and classroom management self-efficacy. Multiple linear regression will be the quantitative approach used for analyzing K-6 teachers’ self-reported data. Valid and reliable instruments will be used to measure the concepts as operationalized for this study. The use of social networking sites (SNSs) has become increasingly popular. Although several studies have been carried out on the addictive use of SNSs such as Twitter and Facebook, there is little research on Instagram addiction and its drivers. The present study investigated the association between students’ needs and Instagram addiction by incorporating physical activity as a moderator among 364 university students. Additionally, the associations between Instagram addiction, academic performance, depression, social anxiety, and life satisfaction were investigated. Background: Improving the implementation of evidence-based interventions is important for population-level impacts. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is effective for improving school climate and students’ behavioral outcomes, but rural schools often lag behind urban and suburban schools in implementing such initiatives.

Methods/Design: This paper describes a Type 3 hybrid implementation-effectiveness trial of Rural School Support Strategies (RS3), a bundle of implementation support strategies selected to improve implementation outcomes in rural schools. This qualitative phenomenological narrative study examined the leadership experiences of 12 principals and assistant principals from a suburban New York school district. The study was based on school leaders' perceptions of the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative Plan and the removal of school safety personnel. School leaders shared their perspectives in semi-structured interviews. All interviews were transcribed, coded, and reviewed. This purpose of this qualitative descriptive research study was to explore, describe, and understand the underrepresentation, the challenges and barriers, and the strategies needed to mitigate gender inequities between male and female executive leaders within NCAA Division I athletic programs. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six female executive leaders who worked as executive leaders within NCAA Division I athletic programs located on the East Coast of the United States. The purpose of this study was to identify the ways English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) educators overcome communication barriers that typically create a disconnect with English language learner (ELL) families. The study also sought to understand how ESOL educators build relationships with the families of their students. The purpose of this interpretive phenomenological study was to explore and understand the behaviors of homeless shelter staff who promoted connectedness with homeless adolescent males and encourage them to remain in shelters. The data were collected for analysis by utilizing semi-structured interviews with four adult males who had experienced homelessness as adolescents and initiated contact with at least one homeless shelter. Four themes emerged from the analysis including (a) authentic relationships, (b) life coach, (c) create a sense of family, and (d) enduring adversity in shelter.
