Recreational And Angler Survey Of The Buffalo National River, Arkansas, James E. Johnson
Recreational And Angler Survey Of The Buffalo National River, Arkansas, James E. Johnson
Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science
The Buffalo River in northern Arkansas was surveyed for recreator and angler use in 1991 and 1992. The river was divided into three reaches and numbers of boats, recreators, anglers, and catches were compiled by creel clerks at nine selected take-out points. Outfitter rental receipts were used to estimate rental boats, and the proportion of rental to private boats creeled was used to correct for private boats not counted on the rental receipts. A total of 1,656 boats containing 3,071 recreators was contracted by the creel clerks during 1991 and 1992; 9.2% of the recreators were anglers. Expansion of the …

"On time and under budget: It's not often that one can say that about a government-sponsored and government-built project, but to date, that is exactly the status of the Rhode Island Convention Center. Assuming this pace of development continues, the center will open in December 1993 below the $290 million projected cost."

Boston-Halifax Ferry Service: Capturing An Existing Market, Melissa P. Madeira
Boston-Halifax Ferry Service: Capturing An Existing Market, Melissa P. Madeira
Theses and Major Papers
The viability of a Boston to Halifax ferry service is examined in light of the existing vehicle traffic entering that Province from the United States. The current cruise ship industry is outlined and the role which the Port of Boston plays in this market describes the Port's incentive for instituting such a ferry service. Statistics provided by the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism show that a significant volume of vehicle traffic which enters Nova Scotia originates at points in the United States which are to the south and west of Boston. The existence of this traffic supports the assumption that …

An Overview Of The Proposed Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Hydro-Electric Project : Aroostook County, Maine, New England Division, Department Of The Army, Corps. Of Engineers, Department Of Energy
Dickey-Lincoln School Lakes Project
An overview of The Dickey-Lincoln Project in northern Aroostook County, Maine is a proposed Federally financed hydro-electric power generating facility. Electric energy generated by the facility would be introduced into the New England Power Pool system through construction of new transmission lines across northern Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
Responsibility for investigation and construction rests in the two Federal agencies, i.e. dams and reservoirs in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and transmission lines in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The two actions are part of the same proposal, although they are in essence separate and distinct. The dams …

B741: Structure, Conduct, And Performance Of The Commercial Campground Industry In Maine, Part: Ii Industry Conduct And Performance, Louis W. Pompi, George J. Seel
Bulletins
Tourism and recreation constitute a growing and important part of Maine's economy. During 1973, Maine's tourist industry accounted for nearly $259 million of direct expenditures by tourists who spent an estimated 22.5 million tourist days in the State (4, p.2). This business activity provided 6.5 percent of 1973 total employment for all industries in Maine and generated state government tax revenues of nearly $30 million or approximately 6 percent of all state revenues for that year (4, p. 3).
A recent study of tourism in Maine indicates that total business activity generated by that industry can be estimated using a …

The Economic Value Of Streams For Fishing, Dennis Hugo Bianchi
The Economic Value Of Streams For Fishing, Dennis Hugo Bianchi
KWRRI Research Reports
The pressures of urbanization and industrialization are gradually destroying stream fishing sites while at the same time producing an increased demand to serve a greater population. Reservoir construction is one cause behind the diminishing availability of stream fisheries. The recreational value of the stream fishery lost should be deducted from the value gained through reservoir recreation in estimating net benefits for economic justification. This study utilized information collected from 3321 stream fishermen to derive a method and the necessary empirical coefficients for predicting the number and economic value of the average annual fisherman-days enjoyed along average streams throughout Kentucky.
