Events Gone Bad: Ramifications And Theoretical Reasonings, Robin Pentecost, Mark T. Spence, Sudhir Kale

Sudhir H. Kale

The extent to which events are sustainable is an issue of considerable importance (Andersson, and Getz, 2008). While it may be that many do not adopt a marketing orientation (Mayfield & Crompton, 1995; Lade & Jackson, 2004; Mehmetoglu & Ellingsen, 2005) due to their more socialistic not-for profit nature there are still other factors that need to be addressed as sustainability will often depend upon the political and tangible support of key stakeholders (Andersson, and Getz, 2008). Using stakeholder theory and commitment-trust theory as applied to the events marketplace and taking a case study approach, this paper critically evaluates a …

A Phenomenology Of Fitness From Consumption To Virtuous Production, Ross Neville

Theses, Doctoral

Although our imagination as policy-makers, legislators, academics, and members of the general public has been captured by the promise of fitness, what is meant by it and whether or not its individualising emphasis is a good thing is much less clear. In response to this question of cultural significance, this thesis provides a phenomenology of fitness. It does so in two important senses and in the context of two distinct parts.
The first half of this thesis (Chapters One and Two) is given to the task of bracketing the natural attitude with respect to fitness; that is, contextualising the question …

F.A.C.E.S. (Faculty Academic Community Education Showcase): Professional Growth Experiences In A Career University, Paul J. Colbert, Ph.D.

MBA Faculty Conference Papers & Journal Articles

Institutes of higher education exist for the purpose of developing, fostering, nurturing, and stimulating the intellectual growth and development of students. The core values of a college education provide students conceptual and practical educational opportunities that focus on improving their skills and knowledge. These skills and knowledge translate into purposeful, real-life learning experiences. However, in the academic community, learning is not restricted to students. Faculty, too, must be supported and provided opportunities for personal and professional growth and development. Although professional development is not a novel concept in the education profession, schools often take up the gauntlet, but fall short …
