The Soul Of The Firm As It Moves To The 21st Century, C. William Pollard

C. William Pollard Papers

In an address delivered at the 50th Annual Indiana University Business Conference (Indianapolis, IN), Pollard contends that the "soul" of any corporate firm is its people. In light of this, he goes on to argue that corporate success depends upon managers who commit themselves to a vision of leadership defined by service to both employees and customers.

Business And Education: A Partnership Worth Investment, Keith W. Harkins

Theses

This thesis will focus on the potential benefits of a collaboration between business and education in an effort to prepare today's youth for entry into the workforce.

The number of large companies that are becoming involved with education is steadily increasing. Many business leaders have come to realize that business has the ability to provide human and material resources that would enable schools to significantly improve the education students receive.

Student internships may provide a method for both business and education to benefit from such partnerships.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate research regarding partnerships between business …

The Relationship Between Announced Layoffs And Financial Performance, Carol E, Goldman Jan 1996

The Relationship Between Announced Layoffs And Financial Performance, Carol E, Goldman

Theses

This thesis focuses on the impact of downsizing on financial performance. Downsizing has become a catchall term for plant closures, eliminating entire layers of management, and even subcontracting large amounts of a firm's operations. Although many American firms are downsizing they often do hot consider what they are trying to achieve by cutting jobs or closing plants. Generally, U.S. companies are eliminating - jobs in their organizations in an attempt to cut costs believing that to do so will increase profitability and result in more efficient organizations. It is naturally assumed that any strategic change in a corporation, such as …

Pb1540 Establishing And Using A Farm Financial Record-Keeping System, The University Of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service

Financial Management

For years farmers have been reporting financial information on a variety of forms for various reasons. Effective management of a farming operation today requires that records be kept so managers can make informed decisions affecting the profitability of their farms.

Some lending institutions require detailed business and personal information on everything a farmer owns, as well as the status of unpaid loans. They may also require production records and an estimate of expected sales and expenses for the next year. Increasingly, regulations point toward the keeping of chemical application records and soil and water conservation plans for environmental concerns. The …

Teaching Ethics In Schools Of Business In Oklahoma Colleges And Universities, Shelsea Ellis

McCabe Thesis Collection

The research in this study seeks to establish the degree to which ethics is included in the business curriculum of four-year colleges and universities in Oklahoma. If ethics is taught as a separate course, the study inquires about the methodology used in that course. If there is not a separate ethics course, the study determines if ethics is included in several courses of the business curriculum. Clarification is also determined as to the percentage of time dedicated to the teaching of ethics and whether or not the dean of the School of Business believes this percentage to be appropriate.
