The Theology And Psychology Of The Negroes' Religion Prior To 1860 As Shown Particularly In The Spirituals: A Thesis, Norman Gregg Long
Honors Papers
In this thesis the writer has endeavored to treat the distinctive religion of the American Negroes so as to make evident, as far as he is able, the circumstances of its origin, its early development, the changes which have conditioned it, the theology in which it has been formulated, and the psychological motives which have been expressed in it. This study is made with the following specific objectives in view:
1. To study the Negro Spirituals as a body of musical literature in which the Negroes' religion prior to 1861 is embodied.
2. To point out the most outstanding features …
Atheistic Propaganda In Our Country, John Theodore Mueller
Atheistic Propaganda In Our Country, John Theodore Mueller
Concordia Theological Monthly
Dreary though it may be, the subject of atheistic propaganda in our country nevertheless demands conscientious study, especially by our pastors and all who are directly interested in the young people of our Church in order that ways and means may be found to safeguard their spiritual welfare, in particular while they are attending colleges and universities.
Only a short time ago we were horrified by the blasphemies of agnostic Modernists. To-day, however, we are facing a foe that is even more treacherous and pernicious. Modernism, with all its vagaries, at least endeavored to preserve some kind of religion and …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Every man is to a greater or less degree a product of the influences surrounding his life. The more commonplace minds of the race, no doubt, are chiefly affected; and occasionally we find a man or woman of so keen an intellect, so striking an individuality, that it is difficult to trace the influence of his age upon him. Rather he becomes a power in forming the opinions of the next generation, stands in advance of his own period. Of this individualistic type if George Meredith, one of the greatest of the nineteenth century writers, if not foremost among them.
The New Era, Earl Clement Davis
The New Era, Earl Clement Davis
Sermons, 1905-1919
This was Davis' first sermon after the outbreak of World War I. He blames the war on international industrial imperialism's century-long development. He states that this horrible consequence was to be expected given the imperialistic tendencies of all the nations involved (including the US), an imperialism driven by commerce and proselytizing so-called Christianity. Yet, Davis sees reason to hope, by working to establish a better world order based on democracy and humanity.

What About City Government, Pipe And Pen Club [Twine Bound Bundle], Earl Clement Davis
What About City Government, Pipe And Pen Club [Twine Bound Bundle], Earl Clement Davis
Manuscripts
This is one of twelve sermons Earl Davis kept together in a twine-bound bundle. While these manuscripts are undated, internal evidence clearly dates them to the years 1909-1911. The United States went through a recession in 1908, and there was increasing labor unrest, including a general strike in Philadelphia in 1910. These difficulties provide some of the backdrop to these manuscripts.
This particular manuscript has a clear notation that it was written for the “Pipe and Pen Club,” presumably some periodic gathering to discuss issues of the day. It is possible that all – or nearly all – of these …

This is from a collection of manuscripts—mostly class papers— written while Davis was a student at Harvard Divinity School, 1902-1904. This manuscript is clearly for the History 6 class he took during the 1902-03 academic year. On the cover page the professor has written “A.

The Wooster Voice (Wooster, Ohio), 1890-11-17, Wooster Voice Editors
The Voice: 1890-1900
This edition begins with a description of the action of the Synod in an article called The University and the Board. This is followed by an article on the Trustees' Report of the same, which outlines the clauses in great detail. Interestingly, this is followed by a response from the Synod Committee on the Trustees' Report which provides an alternative perspective. The paper also recounts a football game between Wooster and Kenyon, and lists the scores. The paper ends with advertisements of local businesses.
