Their study uncovered that hospitality and tourism workers possess the soft skills required across various industries. However, while soft skills can support career transitions, the hospitality industry and its workers should invest in developing more technology-focused skills to achieve greater career flexibility, advancement, and resilience.

What is LMX? Leader-member exchange (LMX) refers to the quality of relationship exchange formed between a leader and their subordinate (Gerstner & Day, 1997). Note that in this context, leaders may include supervisors, not just upper-level leaders such as managers or administrators. Purpose — Pilot upgrade training is critical to aircraft and passenger safety. This study aims to identify variances in the US Air Force C-130J pilot upgrade training based on geographic location and provide a model to enhance policy that will impact future pilot training efforts that lower cost and increase operator quality and proficiency.
Design/methodology/approach This research employed a mixed-method approach. First, the authors collected data and analyzed 90 C-130J pilots' aviation records and then contextualized this analysis with interviews of experts. This study examines contributing factors that affect female underrepresentation in management, in the United States (U.S.), within the U.S. workforce. The primary variables of interest are intrinsic motivation, work life balance and organizational climate support, which have typically not been reviewed in depth, in prior research.

Using a framework of varied theoretical approaches, this research studies the relationship between the above-mentioned constructs and gender effect, as related to interest in career advancement opportunities and female leadership underrepresentation within organizations.

This dissertation manuscript is rooted in the notion that an employee’s perception of their immediate supervisor’s leadership effectiveness, and the associated social exchange, are significant contributors to their engagement. Engagement, when consistently elevated, results in positive organizational outcomes. While perceived leadership effectiveness and engagement present a relatively intuitive connection, other less clearly defined factors might moderate this relationship. These factors include a myriad of supervisor and employee traits and behaviors, many of which represent levels and dimensions of diversity. When employers hire people with disabilities, collective behavioral change occurs within organizations. Specifically, attitudes towards people with disabilities improve through professional interventions and encourage organizational citizenship behavior. Previous studies have demonstrated the economic and client-focused impact of hiring people with disabilities — resulting in a tested model of competitive integrated employment. This study indicates that — when organizations employ best practices when integrating people with disabilities into the workplace — there is a performance-based behavioral change in non-disabled employees.

The Relationship Between Work-Life Balance, Job Satisfaction, Age, And Gender, Diana Fernandez, Suzanne Lebin

The Journal of Advancing Education Practice

This paper explored the relationship between job satisfaction and the perception of work-life balance using a dataset (n = 856) from The Workplace Equity Survey (Spilka, et al., 2020). We also investigated the perceptions of work-life balance between age groups and gender groups. Chi-square tests revealed significant correlations in perceptions of work-life balance based on sentiments of job satisfaction. ANOVAs were conducted to investigate the perceptions of work-life balance between different age groups and gender groups. Significant differences were observed between different age groups, but not between the different gender groups. Results of the study support the notion that perceptions …

Determinants Of Country-Level Employee Overqualification: A Configurational Approach, Aleksandar Nikolovski, Robert Kaše

Economic and Business Review

We build on the configurational approach to identify patterns of macro contextual factors leading to high country-level employee overqualification. We differentiate between subjective and objective employee overqualification and establish that each is caused by different configurations of macro factors. We also identify country-level overqualification archetypes and link specific countries with respective archetypes. We find that a country’s non-vocational education system is a necessary condition for high objective overqualification, while objective overqualification itself is not a necessary condition for perceived overqualification. We discuss theoretical implications and offer policy implications.

Competency-based personnel selection refers to a hiring process that is rooted in assessment of the required job-related competencies or knowledge, skills, abilities, or other characteristics (KSAOs). Competencies can be evaluated to make hiring decisions using a variety of different methods, including interviews, paper-and-pencil or computer-administered tests, work samples, or situational judgment tests, to name a few.
