Incorporation Of Carbon Dioxide Production And Transport Module Into A Soil-Plant-Atmosphere Continuum Model, Sahila Beegum, Wenguang Sun, Dennis Timlin, Zhuangji Wang, David Fleisher, Vangimalla R. Reddy, Chittaranjan Ray

Nebraska Water Center: Faculty Publications

Carbon dioxide release from agricultural soils is influenced by multiple factors, including soil (soil properties, soil-microbial respiration, water content, temperature, soil diffusivity), plant (carbon assimilation, rhizosphere respiration), atmosphere (climate, atmospheric carbon dioxide), etc. Accurate estimation of the carbon dioxide (CO2) fluxes in the soil and soil respiration (CO2 flux between soil and atmosphere) requires a process-based modeling approach that accounts for the influence of all these factors. In this study, a module for CO2 production via root and microbial respiration and diffusion-based carbon dioxide transport is developed and integrated with MAIZSIM (a process-based maize crop growth …

Waste Treatment Facility Location For Hotel Chains, Dolores R. Santos-Peñate, Rafael R. Suárez-Vega, Carmen Florido de la Nuez 2023 Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Waste Treatment Facility Location For Hotel Chains, Dolores R. Santos-Peñate, Rafael R. Suárez-Vega, Carmen Florido De La Nuez

ITSA 2022 Gran Canaria - 9th Biennial Conference: Corporate Entrepreneurship and Global Tourism Strategies After Covid 19

Tourism generates huge amounts of waste. About half of the waste generated by hotels is food and garden bio-waste. This bio-waste can be used to make compost and pellets. In turn, pellets can be used as an absorbent material in composters and as an energy source. We consider the problem of locating composting and pellet-making facilities so that the bio-waste generated by a chain of hotels can be managed at or close to the generation points. An optimization model is applied to locate the facilities and allocate the waste and products, and several scenarios are analysed. The study shows that, …

A Conceptual Review Of Sustainable Development Goal 17: Picturing Politics, Proximity And Progress, Joanna Stanberry, Janis Bragan Balda 2023 The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley

A Conceptual Review Of Sustainable Development Goal 17: Picturing Politics, Proximity And Progress, Joanna Stanberry, Janis Bragan Balda

International Business and Entrepreneurship Faculty Publications

We outline the discursive origins of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17, describing its ambiguous marching orders, which are further confused by shifting and contested stakeholder approaches. The widespread effect is to obscure the primary aim of making the tropics and other vulnerable countries more resilient, and also globally overcoming barriers to their development. We argue that ecological reflexivity, as developed and advanced by deliberative democracy and the Earth System Governance Project, belongs at the apex of those capacities needed for implementing the Agenda for Transformation. Ecological reflexivity conceptually grounds inclusive, open, critical, and consequential engagement of discourses situated …

Water leakage control on the coal mine roof is an inevitable challenge in the process of coal mining. In this regard, chemical grouting provides an effective method to solve this problem. Specifically, acrylate grouting materials were prepared using the synthesized magnesium acrylate solution, cross-linking agent, initiator, and accelerator as the raw materials. Based on this, the effects of the concentration of magnesium acrylates, the type and dosage of crosslinking agent and the dosage of initiator on the properties of the gels of the acrylate grouting materials were investigated. The test results indicate that the type and dosage of crosslinking agent …

Current Situation And Development Trend Of Pressure-Relief Gas Extraction In The Protective Layer Mining In Coal Mines In China, Xue Junhua, Xiao Jian, Du Xuanhong, Shi Yu

Coal Geology & Exploration

Deep coal mining in China is seriously restricted by factors including high stress, high gas pressure, and low coal seam permeability. Moreover, with the gradual deterioration of the mining conditions of deep coal seams, it is increasingly difficult to control the gas in these coal seams. Fortunately, the pressure-relief mining of protective layers serves as an efficient way to control gas and eliminate coal and gas outbursts. To meet the demand of practical projects, this paper reviews the studies on the mining technology for protective layers, the law of change in the stress of protected layers, the evolutionary law of …

Effects Of Increasing Sintering Pressure On The Performance Of Impregnated Diamond Bit, YANG Zhan, TAN Songcheng, FANG Xiaohong, YANG Kaihua 2023 School of Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Information, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Wuhan 430074, China

Effects Of Increasing Sintering Pressure On The Performance Of Impregnated Diamond Bit, Yang Zhan, Tan Songcheng, Fang Xiaohong, Yang Kaihua

Coal Geology & Exploration

The matrix formulas of conventional hot-pressed impregnated diamond bits are mostly elemental metal systems, using WC or YG8 as the skeleton materials, Cu alloys as the bonding materials, and Ni, Co, Fe and Mn as the intermediate materials. Due to the compositions and contents of the bonding and skeleton materials in the formulas, the suitable sintering pressure is limited (≤16 MPa), while the sintering temperature is relatively high (≥ 930℃), resulting in a lower relative ratio of the actual and theoretical densities (≤98%) for the diamond bit matrix. However, the high sintering temperature will cause thermal damage to the diamonds, …

Design And Application Of Anti-Drop Drill Pipe With Fracture Self-Locking Function, Dong Changle

Coal Geology & Exploration

Drill pipe will inevitably break and drop during its long-term service, which not only seriously affects the drilling efficiency and the rate of hole formation, but also brings great economic losses to coal mines. In terms of drill pipe drop caused by the random fracture during drilling, the shortcomings of fishing tap were pointed out. By analyzing the fracture characteristics of drill pipe, it is concluded that the key to solve the problem of drill pipe drop is to develop the axial connection technology after the fracture of pin joint. Herein, an active anti-drop technology with fracture self-locking function was …
