New Jersey's Mitigation And Adaptation To Climate Change: An Economic Analysis Of The State's Societal Benefits Charge And Community Solar Energy Program, Nicole S. Provost 2025 Montclair State University

New Jersey's Mitigation And Adaptation To Climate Change: An Economic Analysis Of The State's Societal Benefits Charge And Community Solar Energy Program, Nicole S. Provost

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

Understanding the current trajectory of New Jersey’s emissions and the existing legislation and programs implemented to help reduce emissions, it is evident that the State requires further actions to spur heightened emission reductions to reach its goals. One known impactful policy that could significantly accelerate this process is a carbon tax, which applies to emission-intensive goods. Although this policy does not currently exist in New Jersey, the State has a Societal Benefits Charge (SBC) that applies an approximate 3% charge to electricity and gas consumption on residential and commercial utility customers’ monthly energy bills, where revenues fund programs that offer …

Hydrogen-Enriched Lng As A Mid-Term Solution To Mitigate Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Shipping, Kang-Ki Lee 2025 World Maritime University

Hydrogen-Enriched Lng As A Mid-Term Solution To Mitigate Greenhouse Gas Emissions From Shipping, Kang-Ki Lee

World Maritime University Ph.D. Dissertations

In light of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) ambitious Initial GHG Strategy, the rise in international shipping’s carbon dioxide emissions by 2 percent in 2022 compared to 2019 poses a formidable challenge. This increase underscores the pressing need to address the limited availability of green hydrogen, prompting the exploration of mid-term solutions to bridge this critical gap. The IMO’s 2023 Strategy on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships attempted to tackle this challenge head-on, recognizing the urgency of reducing the industry’s substantial carbon footprint. While hydrogen offers a simple solution as a zero-carbon fuel, LNG remains the most widespread alternative …

Streamer Discharge Modeling For Plasma-Assisted Combustion, Stuart Reyes, Shirshak Kumar Dhali 2025 Old Dominion University

Streamer Discharge Modeling For Plasma-Assisted Combustion, Stuart Reyes, Shirshak Kumar Dhali

Electrical & Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Some of the popular and successful atmospheric pressure fuel/air plasma-assisted combustion methods use repetitive ns pulsed discharges and dielectric-barrier discharges. The transient phase in such discharges is dominated by transport under strong space charge from ionization fronts, which is best characterized by the streamer model. The role of the nonthermal plasma in such discharges is to produce radicals, which accelerates the chemical conversion reaction leading to temperature rise and ignition. Therefore, the characterization of the streamer and its energy partitioning is essential to develop a predictive model. We examine the important characteristics of streamers that influence combustion and develop some …

Commingling Production Of Deep Coal-Measure Gas Through Hydraulic Fracturing: Propagation Patterns Of Induced Fractures And Their Determinants, Chen Hao, Li Guozhang, Qin Yong, Wang Jianguo, Shen Jian, Sun Yuqi, Yuan Erjun, Li Dian

Coal Geology & Exploration

Objective The commingling production of coal-measure gas represents a pivotal approach to enhancing the single-well production of unconventional gas in China. However, coal-measure gas reservoirs exhibit distinctly different material compositions and physical properties, leading to uncertainty of the propagation modes and developmental degrees of fractures in different reservoirs during the hydraulic fracturing of coal-measure gas reservoirs subjected to commingling production. Therefore, effectively coordinating the stimulation of multiple reservoirs for multi-gas commingling production is crucial for minimizing production costs and maximizing production capacity. Methods This study investigated the Linxing block along the northeastern margin of the Ordos Basin as an example …

Conventional theoretical models for calculating the failure depths generally merely consider static loads from the support pressure and confined water's pressure in stopes, leading to large deviations between calculation results and actual situations. Therefore, constructing a more practical computational model that comprehensively considers the coupled effects of multiple force sources on the failure of deep floors can provide a scientific basis for the effective prevention and control of water hazards in deep coal seam floors. Methods Based on the dynamic elasticity theory and …

Coal Geology & Exploration

Objective and Methods Faults are identified as one of the most threatening geological structural factors among hidden disaster-causing factors in coal mines. However, the 3D quantitative assessment of them remains challenging. Considering that existing quantitative indicators fail to fully reflect fault morphologies and there is a lack of 3D methods, this study proposed a calculational model for 3D fault complexity based on curvature analysis and fractal dimensions. This model improved the morphologies of traditional measurement volumes of fractal dimensions by employing the Delaunay tetrahedralization algorithm, thus effectively reducing the invalid values in calculating the 3D fractal dimensions of faults. Moreover, …

Objective With the growth in the demand for natural oil and gas and the technological progress of their production, the oil and gas well depths have been constantly setting new records. The increase in the depth corresponds to sharply increasing in-situ stress, leading to increasingly severe damage to the casing of ultradeep oil and gas wells. To enhance the bearing capacity of the casing under high in-situ stress, high-strength casing with a large wall thickness is typically employed, a measure which has been proved, however, less effective. Methods This study established a finite element model of the casing-cement sheath-formation system …
