Objective: To determine levels of professionalism in undergraduate medical students at a private medical college and assess how changes emerge during their training.

Methods: The study was conducted at Aga Khan University, a tertiary care teaching hospital, during November and December 2011. Freshmen, Year 3 and Year 5 students were requested to fill out a questionnaire. It was designed to assess the participants\' levels of professionalism and how they perceived the professional environment around them by incorporating previously described scales. This study examined, by use of a researcher-developed survey instrument, perceptions between three groups on reasons why students drop out of nursing programs. Also examined are recommendations from the three groups on how to try to avoid nursing student attrition. Specific groups surveyed included native BSN students, RNB students, and a mixed group of nursing faculty. Survey items were divided into two general groups: student-related issues, and institutional issues. Since RNB students (which include a larger number of non-traditional students) and BSN students (which include more of the native university population of traditional students) have many differences, the author attempted …

Data and Test Instruments

Objective: To assess whether prognostic factors in male breast cancer (MBC) and female breast cancer (FBC) have similar impact on survival. Patients and Methods: Charts for men and women diagnosed with breast cancer referred to the London Regional Cancer Program (LRCP) were reviewed. Patients with distant metastatic diseases were excluded. Data on prognostic factors including age, nodal status, resection margin, use of hormonal therapy, chemotherapy with/without hormone and radiation therapy (RT), overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and disease-free survival (DFS) were analyzed. Survival estimates were obtained using Kaplan-Meier methodology. The Cox regression interaction was used to compare male and …

Fellows Serving In Afghanistan Thank Royal College With Special Gift, Dialogue

Data and Test Instruments

In recognition of support given to Fellows serving in Afghanistan, a flag box was commissioned by officers and recently presented to the Royal College. Past-President Louis Francescutti, MD, FRCPC, himself an Honorary Colonel of 1 Field Ambulance Edmonton, accepted the gift on behalf of the organization. Crafted by the Udin brothers of Kabul, the flag box is engraved with the Royal College crest, as well as with the Canadian and Afghani national flags. It will be displayed in the Roddick Room — the Royal College’s library. For over a decade, many Fellows of the Royal College, both civilians and Canadian …
