Case Title: Uncovering The Truth: The Unexpected Incidental Discovery Of Metastatic Carcinoid Tumor In An Elderly Patient., Kavitha Chittaragi Dr, Shwetha R. Poojary Dr

Carcinoid tumors are rare neuroendocrine neoplasms with varied clinical presentations. We report a case of a 70-year-old female patient who presented with history of loose stools, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Imaging revealed a small hyper-enhancing nodule in the small bowel, multiple liver lesions, and a mesenteric mass, all suggestive of metastatic carcinoid disease. Biopsy confirmed a neuroendocrine tumor. As these tumors can remain indolent for years, early detection and treatment are critical for effective management and better prognosis.

Introduction: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a psychiatric disease that affects approximately 10% of the population. Individuals suffer from a myriad of causes and consequences of AUD, and team-based management of patients is often required for given the chronic and complex nature of the disease. Interprofessional education (IPE) for biomedical science and health professional students that incorporates patient-centered cases focused on AUD and adjacent stress-related disorders may improve future collaboration in managing these conditions and community outcomes related to wellbeing. Objective: The musculoskeletal evaluation is a vital part of the physical exam for physicians. Imaging modalities are frequently used to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of various musculoskeletal pathologies, and of these modalities, point of care ultrasound is quickly gaining popularity as part of the musculoskeletal exam due its accessibility, cost effectiveness, and This project was created to increase the exposure of family medicine residents to point of care ultrasound in conjunction with specialist supervision, and use of Sonosim, an ultrasound training software, with the aim of increasing residents’ comfort level using this imaging modality.

Introduction: About 200,000 new patients each year are affected by atrial flutter. It is an abnormal cardiac rhythm characterized by rapid regular atrial depolarizations at a rate of approximately 300 beats/minute and a regular ventricle rate of about 150 beats/minute. It can go undiagnosed because it is often asymptomatic and usually diagnosed when patients are being evaluated for other health issues. This case report emphasizes the importance of thorough evaluation of symptoms suggestive of arrhythmia even if they occur intermittently.

Introduction: Short telomere syndrome (STS), also known as accelerated aging syndrome, is an inheritable gene mutation resulting in decreased telomere length causing high cell turnover of organ systems such as skin, bone marrow, liver, hair, lungs, and immune system. Due to diverse clinical manifestations, STS poses a diagnostic challenge, with bone marrow failure and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis being frequent manifestations. The inherited form of STS demonstrates genetic anticipation occurring at an earlier age with more severe manifestations in the affected progeny. We present a rare case of inherited STS in a young patient with severe pulmonary fibrosis.

Purpose: The UTRGV SOM Stroke Prevention Education Program is a patient education initiative for uninsured patients in Hidalgo County, where the prevalence of the five major risk factors for strokes, like diabetes and hypertension, are especially high. Texas Medical Association student members collaborated with the UTRGV SOM Area Health Education (AHEC) Scholars program, which aims to help reduce the significant shortage of primary health care providers in rural and medically underserved communities in the Rio Grande Valley.

Disability education for medical students is often insufficient and can contribute to health disparities for people with disabilities. Our interdisciplinary curriculum development team created a longitudinal 4-year disability education model aimed at improving patient care for people with disabilities. Central to our curriculum are progressive sessions aligned with students' medical journey, including three required sessions covering interdisciplinary healthcare teams, implicit bias, health disparities, disability culture, shared decision-making, communication, and self-determination. Through the inclusion of people with disabilities, an interdisciplinary curriculum development team, and trainee-driven advocacy, our longitudinal multi-phasic disability education curriculum seeks to mitigate health disparities. Further, unlike previous studies, this study utilised a natural learning environment rather than computer-based lessons. We investigated how the emotional design of lecture slides impacts mood, cognitive load and memory retention in first-year anatomy students studying medicine and dentistry in Universiti Malaya across three separate lectures. Purpose

Using data from a national sample of graduating medical students, this study describes the patterns of change and stability in ophthalmology intentions relative to various other specialties and explains how those patterns vary by the intersection of gender and race/ethnicity.

Method

National survey data from MD-granting medical school graduates who matriculated between 2013-2014 and 2018-2019 and graduated by 2021-2022 were examined. The outcome consisted of four groups based on ophthalmology specialty intention at matriculation and graduation: non-ophthalmology, switched out, switched to, and reaffirmation.
