Delirium is an acute disorder yielding cognitive deficits, such as disruption in attention and awareness. It impacts approximately 50% of individuals over the age of 65 who are admitted to the hospital and is prevalent with patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). ICU delirium is associated with adverse outcomes, including higher morbidity, prolonged hospital stays, and chronic neurocognitive deficits. The invention, application, and advocacy of occupational therapy approaches for the neurodivergent student population were the main objectives of this research. This project aimed to empower Linden Waldorf educators and staff to more effectively address the needs of their kids by offering direct observations, educational presentations, and a range of educational resources on an assortment of neurodivergent deficits and diagnoses. Background/Objectives: Accurate patient-specific dosimetry is essential for optimizing radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT), but current tools lack validation in clinically realistic conditions. This work aimed to develop a workflow for designing and fabricating patient-derived, organ-realistic RPT phantoms and evaluate their feasibility for commissioning patient-specific RPT radioactivity quantification. Methods: We used computed tomographic (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of representative patients, computer-aided design, and in-house 3D printing technology to design and fabricate anthropomorphic kidney and parotid phantoms with realistic organ spacing, anatomically correct orientation, and surrounding tissue heterogeneities. Background: There is growing interest in washing banked blood with an intraoperative autotransfusion device (IAT) prior to transfusing to patients. The main purpose of this practice is to reduce the effects caused by storage lesion, both to the blood and the patient, and diminish the cost and of washing by using an IAT as opposed to washing in the blood bank.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), including preeclampsia, affect 1 in 6 pregnancies, are major contributors to maternal morbidity and mortality, yet lack precision medicine strategies. Analyzing transcriptomic data from a prospectively-collected diverse cohort (n = 9102), this study reveals distinct RNA subtypes in maternal blood, reclassifying clinical HDP phenotypes like early/late-onset preeclampsia. The placental gene PAPPA2 strongly predicts the most severe forms of preeclampsia in individuals without pre-existing high risk factors, months before symptoms, and its overexpression correlates with earlier delivery in a dose-dependent manner. Further, molecular subtypes characterized by immune genes are upregulated in less severe forms of HDP. …

BACKGROUND: At least 37 % emergency department (ED) patients are discharged without a definitive diagnosis, resulting in diagnostic uncertainty. Transitions of care are high-risk periods for patient safety, especially for patients discharged with diagnostic uncertainty. Effective communication between clinicians and patients improves these care transitions. Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and the second leading cause of death from cancer among women. Metastasis is the major cause of BC-associated mortality. Accumulating evidence implicates Caveolin-1 (Cav-1), a structural protein of plasma membrane caveolae, in BC metastasis. Cav-1 exhibits a dual role, as both a tumor suppressor and promoter depending on the cellular context and BC subtype. This review highlights the role of Cav-1 in modulating glycolytic metabolism, tumor-stromal interactions, apoptosis, and senescence. OBJECTIVE: We evaluated an ototoxicity monitoring program (OMP) for improving audiologic follow-up in head and neck cancer (HNC) patients.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.

SETTING: Tertiary academic center.

METHODS: Two hundred and forty patients were recommended for chemotherapy between January 2017 and June 2022. An OMP was implemented in March 2021; every patient received an audiology referral and was contacted to schedule a pretreatment audiogram. Patients were divided into pre-OMP and post-OMP cohorts. Main outcome measures included rates of pretreatment audiograms, posttreatment audiograms, posttreatment otologic symptoms, and hearing aid utilization.

Adolescent mental health is a growing concern, with anxiety disorders being particularly prevalent among high school students. Left untreated, anxiety can significantly impact academic performance, social functioning, and long-term mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated these challenges, highlighting the critical need for effective screening and intervention strategies. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7) is a validated tool for identifying anxiety disorders, yet its application in high school settings is limited. Emergency mental health hospital readmissions present significant challenges to healthcare systems, often resulting in increased costs, prolonged hospital stays, and poor patient outcomes. Continuity of care through predischarge referrals to outpatient mental health services, psychosocial support, and community resources has been proposed as a strategy to reduce readmissions. However, the effectiveness of these interventions remains inconsistent across different populations and settings.

BACKGROUND: Acute interstitial pneumonia (AIP), also known as Hamman-Rich syndrome, is a rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease. In addition to being challenging to diagnose, AIP is also difficult to treat. The mortality rate of AIP is greater than 70% due to the disease's rapid progression. Furthermore, survivors are likely to develop chronic interstitial lung disease as a sequela. Treatment primarily focuses on supportive care, which consists of oxygenation through mechanical ventilation, administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics, and the use of corticosteroids. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a pathogen that can cause severe respiratory infection that can rarely be life threating. There are currently no vaccines against M. pneumoniae, and the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant strains of M. pneumoniae is on the rise.1 During infection, M. pneumoniae produces a toxin called Community Acquired Respiratory Distress Syndrome (CARDS) toxin, which plays a role in establishing infection. Analysis of the crystal structure of CARDS toxin protein reveals three protein domains: D1, D2,and D3.

PURPOSE: Neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase gene fusions are oncogenic drivers of various solid tumors. Larotrectinib is a highly selective tropomyosin receptor kinase (TRK) inhibitor approved for patients with TRK fusion cancer on the basis of single-arm trials. This study was a matched comparative effectiveness study of larotrectinib in clinical trials versus standard of care (SOC) in the real-world (RW) setting.
