BACKGROUND: Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) programs have consistently been shown to enhance the psychosocial well-being of participants. Given the well-established association between psychosocial factors and immunologic functioning, it has been hypothesized that enhanced psychosocial well-being among MBSR participants would be associated with corresponding changes in markers of immune activity.

OBJECTIVES: The objectives of this study were to examine changes in psychosocial and immunologic measures in a heterogeneous patient sample following participation in a MBSR program.

DESIGN: A single-group, pretest/post-test design was utilized.

Discovery Of Quinic Acid Derivatives As Oral Anti-Inflammatory Agents, Kui Zeng

Quinic acid (QA) esters found in hot water extracts of Uncaria tomentosa (a.k.a. Cat’s claw) exert anti-inflammatory activity through mechanisms involving inhibition of the pro-inflammatory transcription factor nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB). Herein, we described the synthesis and biological testing of novel QA derivatives. Inhibition of NF-κB was assessed using A549 (Type II alveolar epithelial-like) cells that stably express a secreted alkaline phosphatase (SEAP) reporter driven by an NF-κB response element. A549- NF-κB cells were stimulated with TNF-α (10 ng/mL) in the presence or absence of QA derivative for 18 hours followed by measurement of SEAP activity. Amide substitution at …

Among the plants used in the homoeopathic system of medicine,by far a large number are derived from the flowering plants. Of the lower groups,those having chlorophyll but lacking a proper organized higher plant structure belong to Algae and Lichens which have been dealt with separately, along with the non- chlorophyllous Fungi. The Bryophytes constitute a separate group of which only one representative is used in Homoeopathy. These plants too lack an organized plant body though analogous structures begin to evolve. Financial planning clients are seeking holistic solutions to their financial opportunities and challenges. Yet, few financial planners and mental health professionals work together to benefit clients. This article showcases a partnership between a financial therapist, trained as a psychologist, and two financial planners who have implemented an evidence-based model of financial planning drawing upon the behavioral finance, neureconomics, evolutionary psychology, and coaching literature.
