Background: Spinal thrust joint manipulation (TJM) education is mandatory in all professional entry-level physical therapy programs, yet TJM is under-utilized in daily practice. This descriptive study expands on previous data about how TJM is taught and includes data for the perceived confidence students have when performing TJM.

Methods: A 39-question descriptive survey inquiring about TJM education and selfperceived confidence in performing TJM was distributed via email to 213 accredited physical therapy programs.

Cachexia is very common among patients with advanced pancreatic cancer and is a marker of poor prognosis. Weight loss in cachexia is due to both adipose and muscle compartments, and sarcopenia (severe muscle depletion) is associated with worse outcomes. Curcumin has shown a myriad of biological effects, including anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory. The ability of curcumin to attenuate cachexia and muscle loss has been tested in animal models, with conflicting results so far. Yoga affects the lifestyles of many individuals ranging from child and teen to senior. The Yoga Centre studios in San Luis Obispo and Arroyo Grande provide a variety of classes conducive to the yoga practice for all ages and levels. The purpose of this study was to examine the perceived benefits of participants enrolled in different styles of yoga at the Yoga Centre. The 163 participants completed the survey using self-administered and electronic questionnaires distributed in January of 2011. Stress relief was the highest perceived benefit. This observational study aimed to see the usefulness of homeopathic therapy in the management of gastroenteritis. A prospective, non-comparative, multi-centre observational study was conducted by Central Council for Research in Homeopathy at its various institutes and units in India during October, 2005- September, 2008. A total of 498 patients of all age groups suffering from gastroenteritis were enrolled in the study. A total of 22 predefined trial medicines were short listed after repertorizing nosological symptoms of gastroenteritis. Selected medicine was prescribed in 6C potency and was repeated from few minutes to few hours, as per the need of the case. …

Intense ultrashort laser beam, after propagation through a transparent medium (water in this work), experiences self-focusing, thereby increasing the intensities in localized area to such high values so as to induce nonlinear optical effects like the generation of white light super-continuum and multi-photon absorption. We have carried out experiments for measuring super-continuum generation in water that contains ultra dilute solutes (of ethanol). Our observations of generation of super-continuum spectra in various solutes indicate that our measurements are able to make a distinction between normal water and water mixed with such ultra-dilute solutes i.e. Homoeopathic medicines.

The protective effect of iron chelators in experimental models of intracerebral hemorrhage suggests that nonheme iron may contribute to injury to perihematomal cells. Therapy with high affinity iron chelators is limited by their toxicity, which may be due in part to sequestration of metals in an inaccessible complex. Transferrin is unique in chelating iron with very high affinity while delivering it to cells as needed via receptor-mediated endocytosis. However, its efficacy against iron-mediated neuronal injury has never been described, and was therefore evaluated in this study using an established cell culture model of hemoglobin neurotoxicity. Our goal was to determine if Therapeutic Touch (TT), a more recently developed energy medicine practice, had any effects on cancer cells. Previous work in our laboratory demonstrated that TT significantly increased the growth of normal human osteoblasts and increased the synthesis of bone matrix proteins and mineralization in cell culture. Currently, little is known about patients' perceptions and beliefs in discussing complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) with their conventional medical (CM) doctor. The purpose of this descriptive research was to show whether CAM-using patients have an interest in discussing CAM treatments with their CM doctor for comprehensive care as described by the health belief model (HBM) constructs of perceived susceptibility, perceived seriousness, and perceived benefits of taking action.
