Honey has been used to treat wounds, infections, and other diseases since ancient times. Due to the widespread bacterial resistance to antibiotics, scientists have investigated the healing power of honey. Numerous studies have documented the broad-spectrum antibacterial effect of honey and its success in inhibiting MRSA. The use of honey as a wound dressing has proven to successfully heal chronic wounds in short amounts of time by inhibiting pathogens, reducing inflammation, rebuilding damaged tissue, and minimizing scarring. The purpose of this study was to investigate use of career-sustaining behaviors and the levels of professional quality of life in music therapy professionals. Background: The fruit peels’ of Solanum melongena L. which is a common vegetable in Egypt, were investigated for biologically active metabolites in an approach to find any medicinal benefits from such waste products. Background: In order to effectively target and provide individualised patient support strategies it is crucial to have a comprehensive picture of those presenting for services. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics and patient rated outcomes of individuals presenting to SolarisCare cancer support centres and their choices regarding complementary and integrated therapies (CIT).Methods: A cohort with a current or previous cancer diagnosis aged 18 - 87 years presenting to a SolarisCare centre during a 5-day period completed a questionnaire. Antibiotic therapy may cause serious side effects. Two disturbing effects of antibiotic administration are antibiotic-associated diarrhea and Clostridium difficile-associated disorder. Antibiotic-associated diarrhea occurs as a direct result of the normal flora destruction due to the antibiotics - which do not discriminate against pathogens or healthy forms of bacteria. C. diff disorder also occurs as an indirect result of antibiotic administration, because the destruction of the normal flora prevents people from having healthy bacteria to prevent disease. There have been studies conducted to determine if replacing the destroyed normal flora with probiotics, or beneficial microorganisms will prevent or treat these conditions. …

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this selective EBM review is to determine whether or not yoga is effective in improving functional disability in adults with chronic low back pain.

STUDY DESIGN: This review consists of two randomized controlled trials published in 2009 and 2011 and one pilot randomized controlled trial published in 2010.

DATA SOURCES: Data sources were articles published in peer reviewed journals comparing yoga for the treatment of chronic low back pain compared to standard medical care found in PubMed and MEDLINE.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this selective EBM review is to determine whether or not whole body vibration (WBV) is a safe and effective adjunctive therapy for reducing fall risk in the elderly.

STUDY DESIGN: A review of English language randomized controlled blinded trials published within peer-reviewed journals from 2005-2010 evaluating the effectiveness of WBV in reducing fall and fall risk. The studies included elderly participants age 60 and older.

DATA SOURCES: Randomized controlled blinded trials were found using PubMed, Medline and OVID databases.

Despite the medical advances of recent years, pneumonia is still a common disease in Ireland, accounting for approximately 7% of deaths in this country'. While national databases such as those run by CIDR and SARI ensure that incidences of systemic and notifiable infections such as tuberculosis are recorded, there are currently no available statistics on commonplace respiratory isolates within Ireland. This study analysed the available data on bacterial pathogens isolated from respiratory samples at a 355 bed Irish hospital over a one year period.
