Background

Obesity is associated with knee pain and is an independent predictor of incident knee osteoarthritis (OA); increased pain with movement often leads patients to adopt sedentary lifestyles to avoid pain. Detailed descriptions of pain management strategies by body mass index (BMI) level among OA patients are lacking. The objectives were to describe complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and conventional medication use by BMI level and identify correlates of CAM use by BMI level.

Methods

Using Osteoarthritis Initiative baseline data, 2,675 patients with radiographic tibiofemoral OA in at least one knee were identified. Use of CAM therapies and conventional medications …

BACKGROUND: Gynecological cancers are among the most common in women and are directly related to a variety of hormonal factors. One potential risk factor associated with developing a gynecological malignancy is the ratio of two hormone metabolites, 2-Hydroxyestrone (2-HE) and 16alpha-Hydroxyestrone (16alpha-HE). A number of botanical constituents such as indoles, flavonoids, and resveratrol have been shown to have a favorable effect on the metabolic pathways that affect this ratio. The present study was designed to evaluate if a multi-nutrient supplement containing targeted botanical constituents would affect the 2-HE/16 alpha-HE ratio in middle-aged women.

Se seleccionó la cabecera municipal de Omitlán, Hidalgo, con el objetivo de evaluar el uso de plantas medicinales, documentar la importancia de dichas especies y estimar el estado actual del conocimiento tradicional en la comunidad. Por medio de entrevistas se detectaron las especies de plantas de uso medicinal, las cuales fueron recolectadas e identificadas, y se llevó a cabo el análisis de datos. The inflammatory process is a critical component of the repair and regeneration of skeletal muscle following injury. The influx of innate immune cells following injury is intricate, and temporal nature. Although required for proper repair and regeneration, the inflammatory process has been shown to exacerbate initial damage, prolonging the healing process.
