The present study was undertaken to contribute to the continuous search for efficient in vitro protocols for the micropropagation of olive trees, with special focus on the Oueslati cultivar. It investigates the main factors involved in the micropropagation process, namely medium composition, growth regulators, rooting, and acclimatization conditions. It demonstrates that under particular conditions, the Oueslati cultivar displays a high capacity to proliferate. Entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) in families Heterorhabditidae and Steinernematidae have considerable potential as biological control agents against soil-inhabiting insect pests. In the present study, the potential of Steinernema feltiae as a biological control agent against cabbage maggot (CM) Delia radicum (Diptera: Anthomyiidae), persistence of the nematode in areas infested by CM larvae, and foraging behavior of the nematode toward CM and/or oilseed rape roots were examined in the laboratory. Effective microorganisms (EM) is a commercial biofertilizer that contains a mixture of co-existing beneficial microorganisms collected from natural environments. Predominantly it consists of species of photosynthetic and lactic acid bacteria, yeast, and actinomycetes. Investigation Of The Reduction Of Mouldboard Ploughshare Wear Through Hot Stamping And Hardfacing Processes, Aysel Yazici

The effects of the hot stamping process and different hardfacing techniques, such as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas metal arc welding (GMAW), on the abrasive wear of ploughshares were investigated under field operational conditions. The abrasive wear losses were determined by measuring the weight and dimension changes before and after tillage. The wear losses of hot-stamped and hardfaced ploughshares were less significant than those of the conventionally heat-treated ploughshare specimens used under field conditions. Na^+/H^+ antiporters have been suggested to play important roles in salt tolerance in plants. English cordgrass (Spartina anglica) is a gramineous halophyte with very strong salt tolerance. It possesses salt glands in its stems and leaves, through which excess salt can be excreted. In this study, a vacuolar Na^+/H^+ antiporter homologous gene (temporarily named SaNHX1) was isolated from Spartina anglica by RT-PCR and rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). Nigella sativa L. has industrial, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical uses but has not been adequately characterized in Pakistan. This investigation was carried out to explore genotype specific fingerprinting of 32 N. sativa L. genotypes based on randomly amplified polymorphic DNA markers. From 58 random primers used, 15 primers generated 249 reproducible and scorable amplification products across all the genotypes, out of which 164 (66%) fragments were polymorphic revealing a high level of polymorphism among these genotypes. Mapping Paddy Rice Yield In Zhejiang Province Using Modis Spectral Index, Qian Cheng, Xiuju Wu

The first 19 bands of a moderate-resolution imaging spectrometer (MODIS), covering the visible to shortwave infrared spectral wavelength, were simulated by ground-level reflectance spectra. All spectral indices similar to the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and ratio vegetation index (RVI) formed by every 2 bands were calculated to obtain their determination coefficients, with theoretical and real yield. A field experiment was conducted for 2 consecutive years to evaluate the response of cotton crop to deficit irrigation under drip irrigation conditions. Water use efficiency (WUE), seed cotton yield, and fiber quality parameters were assessed at various irrigation levels. The experiment was set up to apply water at 4 different application rates: 50%, 65%, 80%, and 100% of the soil water depletion. These were abbreviated as DI50, DI65, DI80, and FI, respectively. In this research, the efficacy of plant extract from Datura stramonium L. (Solanaceae) was tested against the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), for its toxic and antifeedant activity. Hacıhaliloğlu is one of the most widely cultivated apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) cultivars in Turkey. It produces fruit of excellent quality and is consumed both fresh and dried. The aim of this study is to investigate in-vitro antimicrobial effects of the essential oils from oregano (Origanum acutidens and Origanum rotundifolium) and thyme (Thymus sipyleus subsp. sipyleus var. rosulans). This study investigated the wood quality of 8-year-old Melia azedarach trees grown in Saudi Arabia. The wood quality of the trees was studied in terms of fibre length, specific gravity, and heartwood/sapwood area. A protocol for production of virus-free Vitis vinifera using meristem culture was developed. Meristems (0.1-0.2 mm) of V. vinifera infected with grapevine fanleaf virus and grape leafroll associated viruses were excised from 1-year-old growing vines. Shoot tips were cultured on half-strength Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, supplemented with 0.02 mg L^{-1} of benzylaminopurine (BAP) and 0.01 mg L^{-1} of naphthalene acetic acid (NAA). BAP and kinetin resulted in differences in the number of new shoots per explant, shoot height, and number of new leaves per explant. Eight primocane fruiting red raspberry cultivars grown at the Experimental station "Radmilovac", a collective raspberry orchard of the Faculty of Agriculture, Belgrade University, were harvested in 2008 and 2009. Assessments of watershed condition for aquatic and riparian species often have to rely on expert opinion because of the complexity of establishing statistical relationships among the many factors involved. Such expert-based assessments can be difficult to document and apply consistently over time and space. We describe and reflect on the process of developing a computer-based decision support application from expert judgments for assessing aquatic and riparian conditions over the 100,000 km2 managed by the US federal government under the Northwest Forest Plan. Impacts of organic matter removal and compaction on soil physical and chemical properties and forest productivity are reported from the first 10 years of the Long-Term Soil Productivity Study in Great Lakes aspen ecosystems. Organic matter removal treatments included main bole, total tree harvest, and total tree harvest with forest floor removal. Compaction treatments included no compaction beyond normal levels from harvest, moderate compaction, and heavy compaction.
