Abstract
The study examined the roles of ICTs for improved fish farming and production in Rivers State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to - describe the socioeconomic characteristics of the responding fish farmers in the area; identify ICT devices used by respondents in the area; examine fish farming/production information needs of respondents; ascertain ICT roles in promoting fish farming and production in the study area; and identify problems of ICTs use by fish farmers in the study area. Multi stage sampling technique was adopted in sample selection. Data were collected with use of questionnaire and interview schedule. The sample size …

Rising economic inequality in the United States and around the world is widely seen as an important public policy issue. While academic social scientists have long been interested in the causes and consequences of inequality, the economic situation in the aftermath of the Great Recession of 2008-09 has stimulated increased public awareness of this issue along with an outpouring of books and articles aimed at understanding it. Explanations for the current increase in the level of inequality draw attention to technological change, globalization, the declining influence of labor unions, and public policies among many other causes. In addition, many analysts …

C4 photosynthesis is perhaps one of the best examples of convergent adaptive evolution with over 25 independent origins in the grasses (Poaceae) alone. The availability of high quality grass genome sequences presents new opportunities to explore the mechanisms underlying this complex trait using evolutionary biology-based approaches. In this study, we performed genome-wide cross-species selection scans in C4 lineages to facilitate discovery of C4 genes. The study was enabled by the well conserved collinearity of grass genomes and the recently sequenced genome of a C3 panicoid grass, Dichanthelium oligosanthes. This method, in contrast to previous studies, …

Gus (goose) is a sophomore at USU majoring in Plant Science. He is originally from Brazil but he has also spent time living in central Utah. He enjoys being outside and the air conditioning inside of buildings often makes him cold. Gus loves to go camping and rock climbing when he is not working on the farm. Gus grew up farming with his family and plans to work as a crop consultant assisting other farmers to better their harvests and practices. He loves to make jokes and has been a fun and valuable addition to the farm this summer. He …

Current Situation Of Agricultural Trade: What Effects Does It Have On Food Security In Africa?, Ismaelline Eba Nguema
International Journal of African Development
The history of food policy in Africa started with the beginning of independence with the adoption of the strategy based on the planned development model. However, the financial and administrative planning requirements were felt quickly. By the early 80s, the debt crisis led African economies to abandon the policy of self-sufficiency and to adopt a so-called liberal agro-food strategy. In this context, food security based on external trade and its requirements became integral parts of structural adjustment programs. Thus, Africa took a stand before the rest of the world in the controlling of extraversion. Despite mixed results, in January 1995, …

Many of you have noticed and probably identified the hanging garlic in the pick-up area at the farm. After garlic is harvested it needs to undergo the process of curing in which it hangs/lays in an area with good air circulation out of direct sunlight. This allows the garlic to dry out slightly, which has several effects. First it allows the garlic to be kept in storage without rotting or molding; it allows the bulb to pull the remaining energy from the leaves as they dry; and finally it, in my opinion, intensifies the garlic's flavor. This curing takes place …

Here at the farm we are in a transitional period where the strawberries are slowing down and the raspberries are just starting up. There are not enough of either to provide for all CSA shares alone, however there are enough between them to do so. This week, if you arrive/arrived early enough, you have or will have the choice between either a bowl of raspberries or of strawberries. If you come at the end of the pick-up time there may only be one kind left. We hope everyone is happy with whatever they received.

Landlords in Nebraska rent out nearly 20.1 million acres or nearly 45 percent of the 45 million acres of farmland across the state (USDA NASS, 2015). The Nebraska Farm Real Estate Market Highlights Report 2015-2016 provides recent trends on land values and rental rates for landlords, tenants, and stakeholders in the state. Findings from the survey summarize current market values and rental rates for agricultural land across the eight Nebraska Agricultural Statistic Districts.

2016 Nebraska Farm Custom Rates, Part I, Roger Wilson, Jim Jansen
Department of Agricultural Economics: Faculty Publications
Every two years a survey of custom operators is conducted to determine the current rates charged for specific machinery operations. The survey is divided into two parts. Part I includes the spring and summer operations such as planting and harvesting of small grains, and Part II includes information about fall and miscellaneous operations.
The responses are grouped by Nebraska Agricultural Statistics Districts as shown on the map below (Figure 1). Custom rates reported include charges for use of necessary equipment, fuel, labor, and supplies such as baling wire or twine provided by the custom operator. Seed, fertilizer, and chemical costs …

This study was designed to examine the effects of exercise on the musculature of the back of ten horses which are used to teach beginning through advanced horsemanship. This was executed by implementing a strict exercise protocol, examining body composition changes and subjecting them to a standard exercise test at the beginning and end of the experimental period in order to determine change in aerobic conditioning. Horses were randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups for six weeks; Purina SuperSportTM (40% CP) and MFA Easy Keeper™ (32% CP). The methods you use, the grass you select and the time of year that you plant your lawn will often determine the quality and ease of maintenance. A quality lawn will increase the value and appeal of your property, and maintaining it can be satisfying work. When it comes to establishing a new lawn, the key is to do everything properly from the start so you will not have to try to fix the lawn once it is established.
