Experimental Study On Apricot Stone Extrusion Breaking Machine, Zhu Zhanjiang, Li Zhongxin, Yang Liling, Liu Kui, Maihemujiang Batuer, Yang Zhongqiang
Food and Machinery
In this paper, a pricot stone breaking machine was designed to solve the current problem of low productivity and high rate of broken kernels in apricot stone breaking processing. The structure and stress situation of the machine had been analyzed. Various related factors were analyzed, and three primary factors including feeding speed, interspace of breaking device and rotating speed of active roll were focused on. Moreover, these three factors were selected for orthogonal experiments, using the Star apricot stone as material. The results showed that the clearance of breaking device had a significant effect on stone breaking efficiency, while the …

Timing Analysis And Methods To Improve The Speed Of The Packaging Machine, Wu Yunzhang, Chen Liang, Feng Yu
Food and Machinery
It was focused on the automatic vertical bag forming-filling-sealing machine (packaging machine for short) and the exploring the relationship between its stability and action sequence in this study. Therefore, it was concluded that three important factors contributed to restricting the speed of the packaging machine, including the transverse sealing, the filling, and the carrying film action time. Moreover, a specific measure of improving the packaging speed was proposed, i.e., designing faster transverse sealing driving mechanism and adding a guide plate above the transverse sealing, trying to keep the bulk product dropping together, and changing the general motor to servo motor …

Energy Saving And Economical Analysis Of Heat Recovery Chillers For Beverage Factory, Chen Shuwen, Guo Yiting
Food and Machinery
Introduces the present situation of preparation of hot water for production process of carbonated drinks plant in China. Referring the traditional scheme of condensation heat recovery in refrigerating unit, the heat recovered from the condensation can preheat the water for steam boil and producing low temperature hot water, then the energy consumption of boilers will be reduced. This new scheme can save large amount of energy of carbonated drinks plant for reference.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) administers approximately 245 million acres of our public lands and yet, for most of our nation's history, these lands seemed largely destined to end up in private hands. Even when the Taylor Grazing Act of 1934 ushered in an important era of better managing public grazing districts and "promoting the highest use of the public lands," such use of our public lands still was plainly considered temporary, "pending its final disposal." It was not until 1976 with the passage of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA) that congress adopted a policy that …

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
Apios americana is a wild legume-bearing plant with edible tubers. Domestication of Apios is in progress because of the superior nutritional value and health benefits of the tuber. Objectives of this study were to: (1) characterize physicochemical properties of the Apios tuber starch; and (2) understand differences in starch structures and properties between the mother (seed) and child (progeny) tubers and the mechanism of starch development. Granules of the Apios tuber starch displayed ellipsoidal, rod, or kidney shape with diameter ranges of 1–30 m. The mother tuber starches displayed greater percentage crystallinity, larger gelatinization enthalpy-changes, longer branch-chain lengths of amylopectin, …

For species with potential as new crops, rapid improvement may be facilitated by new genomic methods. Apios (Apios americana Medik.), once a staple food source of Native American Indians, produces protein-rich tubers, tolerates a wide range of soils, and symbiotically fixes nitrogen. We report the first high-quality de novo transcriptome assembly, an expression atlas, and a set of 58,154 SNP and 39,609 gene expression markers (GEMs) for characterization of a breeding collection. Both SNPs and GEMs identify six genotypic clusters in the collection. Transcripts mapped to the Phaseolus vulgaris genome–another phaseoloid legume with the same chromosome number–provide provisional genetic …

Effect Of Cover Crops And Nitrogen Application Timing On Nutrient Loading And Concentration Through Subsurface Tile Drainage, Michael Douglas Ruffatti
Theses and Dissertations
It has been estimated that nitrate (NO3-N) leaching from artificially drained agricultural fields in the Upper Mississippi River Basin accounts for approximately 65% of nitrogen (N) delivered annually to the Gulf of Mexico. Therefore, the objectives of this study were to investigate the impact fertilizer application timing and cover crops (CC) adoption on the load and concentration of nutrients in subsurface drainage leachate. This experiment was conducted at the Illinois State University Nitrogen Management Field Station, in Lexington, IL. Treatments include a zero control (no N fertilizer and no cover crop), fall dominated N application (70% fall, 30% spring) with …
