Expanding Your Customer Base To Low-Income Populations: Snap Basics & Marketing, Regan Emmons, Kelsey Hall, Roslynn Brain Mccann

Applied Sciences, Technology and Education Faculty Publications

Full representation of a community shopping at farmers markets, farm stands or belonging to a community supported agriculture (CSA) program entails reaching low-income community members. Farmers markets, farm stands, and CSA models that accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and offer SNAP incentive programs, such as Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB), are emerging to help low-income individuals access local products. They also connect growers with new customers. This workshop will provide research-based information on 1. strengthening your marketing techniques, 2. benefits of accepting SNAP and incentives, like DUFB, and 3. how market managers, farm stands, and CSA growers might …

Safety First Risk Preferences And Post-Harvest Grain Marketing A Context-Rich Lab Experiment, Stamatina Stamatina, Simanti Banerjee, Cory Walters 2020 University of California, Davis

Safety First Risk Preferences And Post-Harvest Grain Marketing A Context-Rich Lab Experiment, Stamatina Stamatina, Simanti Banerjee, Cory Walters

Cornhusker Economics

Improving our understanding of the influence of risk- preferences on decision making represents an important objective for understanding behavior, designing policy and decision making theory. A natural place this problem persists is in the marketing of grain (Kastens and Dhuyvetter, 1999). Grain marketing research has primarily focused on the use of different marketing techniques that result in lower price risk and, therefore, lower-income risk (Musser, Patrick, Eckman, 1996). However, the extent to which the theoretical findings from these studies are relevant to real-world applications is not clear (Brorsen and Irwin, 1996; Garcia and Leuthold, 2004). While reducing income risk is …

Energy Saving Issues In Pumping Units, A.I. Anarbaev, D.B. Kodirov, R.A. Zakhidov, B. Usmanov

Irrigation and Melioration

The article presents the issues of energy saving, which are becoming increasingly relevant due to the constant increase in tariffs and the introduction of the demands on energy efficiency and energy conversation. To save energy at pumping units, the characteristics of controlling the electric drive of pumping stations with frequency-controlled control are considered. For adequate adjustment by the technological process of water movement and power supply, corresponding analytical dependencies are obtained. An analysis of the physical expressions of water pumping processes allowed us to determine energy-saving modes of operation and technologies for improving the efficiency of equipment.

Hydromechanical Parameters Of River Sediment, A.M. Arifjanov, D.Sh. Allayorov

Irrigation and Melioration

The main problem today in irrigation canals is the danger of siltation, in this process it is important to correctly assess the factors affecting the throughput (hydromechanical parameters of sediment) and using their justification of the hydraulic elements of the flow. The article presents the results of theoretical studies of the main hydromechanical parameters (hydraulic fineness) of river sediments, in hydraulic structures, in particular in irrigation canals, which currently increasingly affect adversely moving water. It has been established that the hydraulic size entering the right bank irrigation sump of the Kokand hydropower complex varies in the range of 189-429 mm/s, …

Minimizing Control Circuits Using Logic Elements, R.T. Gaziyeva, A.M. Nigmatov, E.O. Ozodov

Irrigation and Melioration

In this article considered information about contact and non-contact automation. In most cases, contact automation is used in many pumping stations. These phenomena are a power surge or voltage drop. And also the use of contact automation occupies a large place and inconvenience in operation. Non- contactless automation solves these problems. Pumping stations are usually designed with the calculation of their operation without permanent duty personnel. At large stations, a small staff is provided, which primarily carries out control functions. Set the automatic operation of pumping units. Often, automatic selection of switched-on units is carried out, reserve is withdrawn, station …

Too Good To Eat? Cosmetic Standards And Waste In Agricultural Supply Chain, Jiahui XU 2020 Singapore Management University

Too Good To Eat? Cosmetic Standards And Waste In Agricultural Supply Chain, Jiahui Xu

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)

There is a significant amount of food wasted at the farm level due to high cosmetic standards adopted by retailers. We examine the economic incentives for retailers to adopt such high cosmetic standards and their impact on food loss. We build a sequential game between a retailer and a farmer, where the retailer signs a contract with the farmer specifying both the wholesale price and cosmetic quality standard. By adopting high cosmetic standards, retailers can motivate farmers to exert a higher effort to improve the cosmetic quality, e.g., using better seeds and applying more pesticides. As for the drivers of …

Determination Of Timeliness Cost Using Method Of Average Workability Robability Based On Reliability Function Of Farm Tractors, Mohammad Poozesh, Javad Tarighi

Emirates Journal for Engineering Research

There is an optimum time for implementing field operation of a crop in each region. If the operation were accomplished sooner or later, it might cause a reduction in yield quantity and quality that is named timeliness cost. The purpose of this study is to survey the timeliness cost of harvesting operation of sugar cane based on reliability function of MF285 tractors operating in Debal Khazaei Agro-Industry Co. in Khuzestan, a province of Iran. MF285 tractors have low reliability in Iran, and due to their low reliability have an uncertainty in implementation of farm operation, though it is not …

2020 Nebraska Property Tax Issues, J. David Aiken 2020 University of Nebraska - Lincoln

2020 Nebraska Property Tax Issues, J. David Aiken

Cornhusker Economics

Nebraska property taxes are the ninth highest in the United States. Nebraska ranks 41st in terms of property taxes (a smaller number means lower property taxes, while a higher number means high- er property taxes). By comparison, Missouri ranks 7th, Colorado is 14th, Kansas is 20th, South Dako- ta is 22nd, Iowa is 35th, and Wyoming is 39th. So Nebraska property taxes are high both regionally and nationally.

Nebraska sales taxes are the ninth-lowest, and both state income taxes and total state taxes are in the middle. Property taxes account for 38% of total state and local tax collections in …
