Controlled traffic farming (CTF) is a farming system built on permanent wheel tracks where the crop zone and traffic lanes are permanently separated. It can improve profitability and sustainability.

Implements for seeding, spraying, spreading and harvesting have a particular span, or multiple of it, and all wheel tracks are confined to specific traffic lanes.

CTF increases profit by more yield, better grain quality, improved operation timeliness, and reduced costs. The environment can improve, with less nutrient leaching, less water erosion, better water infiltration, and less greenhouse gas emission. Black and African Americans have faced historic underrepresentation in the agri-food system (Horst & Marion, 2019). Systemic inequities have hindered food entrepreneurs and economic growth within this community. Recent diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives highlight societal concerns about these imbalances (Darity, 2024). Some consumers aim to address this underrepresentation by purchasing products from Black entrepreneurs, but this requires effective communication, which can increase marketing expenses and risks for producers. This study examines the risk associated with finishing cattle in a feedlot, specifically in the context of historically high cattle prices and quality grade grid marketing systems that have not adjusted to these elevated prices. The analysis also looks at performance factors that drive profitability differences in pens of cattle in a commercial feedlot, and how market factors also impact profitability. Regression analysis determines the significance of performance variables such as days on feed, average daily gain, feed conversion rates, and carcass characteristics on pen profitability. This two-chapter thesis evaluates the motivations and determinants of the central figures in farmers’ markets and organic markets. The first chapter explores the rise of farmers’ markets popularity through an in-person survey that was designed and distributed to 274 farmers' market consumers. Logit and ordered logit regressions were used to identify the motivations and characteristics that affect the likelihood of being a frequent farmers’ market customer (visiting 5 times or more per season) and spending over $50. This dissertation examines the nutrient composition, amino acid digestibility, and performance of poultry fed with American tannin-free grain sorghum. The Water Efficient Maize for Africa (WEMA) partnership was launched in March 2008 to help maize producers manage drought risk by developing and deploying genetically modified (GM) maize varieties that yield 24 to 35 percent more grain under moderate drought conditions than currently available varieties across Southern Africa. Information About Honey Fraud: Implications Of Information Choice For Consumer Behavior, Christopher R. Gustafson

The study highlights that standard research practice—exposing participants to information—may not capture what will happen outside of the lab when people have a choice about what to read, view, or do with their time. While we found that having participants read about honey fraud significantly shifted their willingness to pay for local and domestic versus imported honey, we did not find those changes when people were able to select a text to read.

The implications of these findings extend beyond the issue of honey fraud to broader contexts of food safety, nutrition, and production techniques. While people have preferences for …
