The Vanguard
The Board of Parish Education of the Florida-Georgia District, LCMS, has issued a statement concerning procedures for Lutheran parochial schools in the district when the situation involves an attempt to avoid the desegregated public schools.
The statement suggests that the policy of each school should be one of encouragement for all races, and that "no ulterior motives which may influence the transfer of children to private schools be abetted or even encouraged.

A larger-than-ever attendance of over 300 were on hand for the Lutheran Indian Conference in Sioux Falls July 31 to August 1 at Augustana Lutheran College. Most of them were Indians and most of the Indians were not Lutherans.

Police in Jackson, Mississippi-because they thought they heard a sniper's gun- fired random shots into windows of a college dormitory. Two young men are dead; nine are injured. In Augusta, Georgia, where police were called out to restore order after a riot had erupted, six men are dead; sixty injured.

William Stringfellow, attorney, and outstanding lay theologian is a longtime friend of LHRAA. He is the author of "A Private and Public Faith," "My People Is the Enemy, " and "Count It All Joy." In 1969, Dr. Stringfellow was presented with the Mind of Christ Award by LHRAA.

Leland Elhard is an Associate Professor of pastoral theology at the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus, Ohio (ALC). He spent four weeks this past summer observing, visiting, and working with the people of the Lutheran churches in the near east side of Baltimore, Maryland, sponsored by the Mutual Enrichment Program of LHRAA. The new and interesting possibilities which emerged from his experience are, it seems to us, worthy of priority consideration by other churches. We are sharing some of his thoughts and insights here.
