In March 2021, the University of California and Elsevier announced a new transformative deal which included slightly-discounted article processing fees as UC's route to open access in Elsevier journals. Librarians and researchers expressed immediate concern that this deal upheld inequities in the research system. The UC/Elsevier transformative deal, however, is just one of many that include expensive pay-to-publish structures. This commentary proposes an alternative contract between libraries and publishers that would enable wider reading and lower costs, called Read & Let Read. Purpose: The study is on corporate social responsibility activities for public libraries engagement towards the actualization of sustainable development goals (SDGs): a survey of public libraries in south-east and south-south Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach: The survey design was adopted. Data were gathered through questionnaire. Population of study comprised of librarians working in the public libraries in south-east and south-south Nigeria. A total of 77 questionnaires were retrieved and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Creating and sustaining an online research profile can serve as an effective strategy for promoting and sharing one’s own work, finding and connecting with other researchers that have complementary research interests, and increasing the visibility and potential impact of one’s own research to the public overall. This workshop will introduce and discuss both new and traditional online research profile tools, such as ORCiD, Publons, Academia.edu, Twitter, etc., and will provide participants with a hands-on opportunity to work with these tools in small groups.

Purpose: This paper examines the Library and Information Science (LIS) Journals in University Grants Commission – Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics (UGC-CARE) of Indian Quality journals for Academic and Research.

Methodology: The data were extracted from UGC-CARE List (https://ugccare.unipune.ac.in/Apps1/Home/Index). The study also analyzed source wise LIS journals, Scopus indexed LIS journals with Cite Score, Web of Science indexed LIS journals with Impact factor and UGC-CARE recommended LIS Journals.

Open access plays a significant role in expanding access by enabling scholars more equitable participation in research and development activities globally. However, little is known about researchers’ awareness and adoption of open access at the University of Zambia. To address this gap, this study investigated open access scholarly communication practices at Zambia’s premier University. Using a survey research design, data were collected from a sample of 67 participants via an online questionnaire. Research information management (RIM) is a rapidly growing area of investment in US research universities. RIM systems that support the collection and use of research outputs metadata have been in place for many years. Globally, the RIM ecosystem is quite mature in locales where national research assessment exercises like the United Kingdom’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) and the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) require institutions to collect and report on the outputs of institutional research. In France where Open Science is a governmental priority, they have built communities of researchers reviewing and recommending for free preprints in their fields in an open, independent, non-exclusive and reliable way, managed by researchers and for researchers called Peer Communities In (PCI). The researchers were empowered to regain control of scholarly publishing refocusing on articles and not the journals' quality. They have seen savings from not paying journal APCs, making results available right away, and transparency of the process. The French research institutions and universities support this process by their recognition of the pre-prints in PCI.

The presentation covered the awareness, discoverability and access to open access resources. OER resources and repositories were included in the library catalogue. Listed the considerations to move to the open access model for teaching and learning. Some of the lessons learnt were: one size does not fit all, faculty already use OER, need to strike a balance between open content and subscribe content. The NUS Libraries also contribute to open access content via its repository called ScholarBank and Digital Gems.

Introduction: This study examined the use of open access journals by librarians in Ghana. The objectives were to establish the familiarity, attitude and benefits of open access journals among librarians in Ghana.

Method: This study uses a survey research design. A web-based questionnaire was used to seek information on respondents’ demographics, awareness, use, attitudes and benefits of open access journals.

Analysis: Descriptive statistics was used to analyze survey results. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for the analysis of data collected from 103 librarians who are members of the Ghana Library Association.
