As libraries spend an increasing percentage of precious collection funds on electronic resources, important questions arise to drive collection management decisions: What is being used? How much? and finally, Who is using our resources? Vendor-supplied statistics can help answer the first two questions, but we have encountered specific questions about our users at Mercer University.

Environmental research data repositories provide much needed services for data preservation and data dissemination to diverse communities with domain specific or programmatic data needs and standards. Due to independent development these repositories serve their communities well, but were developed with different technologies, data models and using different ontologies. Digital Commons A National Leader With 50-Million Downloads

Nebraska's Digital Commons repository features an interactive map that shows paper downloads in real-time. The site recently surpassed the 50 million download mark. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Digital Commons has grown to rank among the nation’s most accessed online repositories of research materials.

Featuring 100,000 full text items supplied by Nebraska faculty, staff and students, the Digital Commons surpassed the 50-million download mark on Sept. 14. In a survey of other leading online repositories managed by other universities, the total downloads from Digital Commons ranks as the top site in the nation. Collaborative Librarianship

This article describes how four librarians contributed to the founding and first-year activities of a multidisciplinary research institute at a regional comprehensive university. The Institute of Cannabis Research (ICR) is the first multidisciplinary research institute on cannabis, an emerging and often controversial field. As faculty representatives on the institute’s steering committee and working groups, librarians were able to leverage interdisciplinary expertise to assist in organizing and disseminating cannabis research. Examples of the reciprocal benefit to both the institution and the library are shared.

MIT researchers, students, and staff have long valued and put into action MIT’s mission to generate and disseminate knowledge by openly and freely sharing research and educational materials. Indeed, the Institute has been at the forefront of the sharing culture: MIT launched OpenCourseWare (OCW), a free webbased publication of virtually all MIT course content in 2001; in 2002 released DSpace, an open-source platform for managing research materials and publications co-created by MIT Libraries staff; and adopted the first campus-wide faculty open access (OA) policy in the US in 2009.

This dissertation offers a critical analysis of software practices within the university and the ways they contribute to a broader status quo of software use, development, and imagination. Through analyzing the history of software practices used in the production and circulation of student and scholarly writing, I argue that this overarching software status quo has oppressive qualities in that it supports the production of passive users, or users who are unable to collectively understand and transform software code for their own interests. The paper examined the ICT knowledge and skills required for recruitment of the librarians in academic and research libraries. Survey approach was adopted drew sample of 24 respondents from four academic and four research libraries in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. A Citation Study Of Andrews University Theological Seminary Dissertations, Cynthia Mae Helms, Bernard Helms

Citations found in Theological Seminary Ph.D./Th.D. dissertations completed between 2006 and 2010 at Andrews University were analyzed to determine how much of the cited resources were held by the library, what types of resources were used, and their age. The study showed that 2/3 of the citations were books and almost 1/3 were periodicals, 84% of the citations were held by James White Library, and the majority of the citations were published within 60 years of the dissertations’ completion dates. The study also revealed that five of the 27 most frequently cited periodicals were included in ranked lists of three …

The study mainly focused on the preferred information sources and methods to access electronic information. The study describes in brief, the e-resources, and their types, etc. The objectives, scope and research methodology of the study are clearly expanded. For this purpose, the researchers prepared a well-structured questionnaire as a tool for data collection and the same responses were subjected to mathematical and statistical analysis.

The main purpose of this study is to determine the awareness and extent use of Web 2.0 technology in the academic libraries of Islamabad, Pakistan.

Design/methodology/approach

The survey research methods was employed in this exploratory study through google forms on Awareness of Web 2.0 tools, the questionnaire were distributed among 100 library professionals of 43 Public and private sector universities based on Islamabad were selected for this study,72 questionnaires were received, showing a response rate of 72% per cent , the data were scrutinized and tabulated using MS Excel 2010 and SPSS.

This unit provides a primer on aspects of United States copyright law that relate to library publishing and provides guidance on creating two essential copyright policies: 1. An externally facing copyright policy for authors considering publishing with the library publishing unit; and 2. A copyright review policy for internal purposes (i.e. how to review submitted publications for copyright issues). Nothing in this unit substitutes for legal advice or constitutes legal advice.
