Copyright, Fair Use, And Creative Commons: An Active-Learning Exercise For Studio Art Students, Arthur J. Boston

This article describes an active-learning exercise intended to help teach copyright, fair use, and Creative Commons licenses. In the exercise students use a worksheet to draw original pictures, create derivative pictures on tracing paper, select Creative Commons licenses, and explore commercial usage, fair use, and copyright infringement. Librarian-instructors may find the completed worksheets to be useful aids to supplement copyright lectures; student perspectives will be integral because they are generating the examples used in discussion. The purpose of this poster is to share our experiences and to highlight lessons learned from the establishing of our institutional repository while collaborating in a statewide initiative to showcase the scholarly output of Montclair State community along with New Jersey researchers. We will discuss how we collaborated with multiple stakeholders from across the campus to establish an open, discoverable, and sustainable resource, to support the University's vision plan and to connect users to our research in the digital age. Impact Of Knowledge Sharing On Job Satisfaction Of University Librarians In Pakistan, Ghulam Murtaza Rafique, Fakhra Khalid, Haroon Idrees

The objectives of this study were twofold. First, it investigated the impact of knowledge sharing (KS) on job satisfaction (JS), second, this study examined the role of demographic variables (gender, age, designation, qualification, and experience) between KS-JS relationship. A cross-sectional survey questionnaire was used to collect data from 274 currently working university librarians in Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized universities of Pakistan. The collected data were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22 by applying relevant descriptive and inferential statistics. The present research paper pertains to the bibliometric analysis of literature on Artificial Intelligence during the year 1986-2015. The main objectives of the research work are to explore the academic research/review publication contributed by the Scientists and Subject experts from the Engineering background. The data/information used in this study has been proclaimed from the online database “Scopus”. The following terms were used as keywords to retrieve the data from the “Scopus” are (TITLE-ABS-KEY-AUTH (artificial intelligence) AND PUBYEAR > 1985 AND PUBYEAR < 2015 AND (LIMIT-TO (SUBJAREA,"ENGI”))). The study has revealed and discussed on the major parameters of yearly publication, citation pattern, a bibliographic form of publication, highly contributed authors, top-ranking authors, etc. The foremost results of our study have found that during the study period 2676 research publications were contributed by the Indian authors in the Engineering discipline.

Mission-Driven Recordkeeping: The Need For Rim Staff In U.S. Nonprofit Organizations, Emily Mercer

As a robust and growing industry, often with strong ties to communities served, there is much potential for nonprofit organizations to harness powerful and rich databases of cultural information not found in any other sector. Yet research shows that in most cases, nonprofit organizations operate on limited budgets, tight deadlines, and may see the task of properly managing records as counter-productive to the mission of the organization. This research examines the systems of recordkeeping in nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and argues that record keeping staff must be considered an essential component for a nonprofit organization to survive and thrive.

Plagiarism is regarded as an academic crime, but can affect hobbies that rely on research and information sharing such as genealogy. The issue is well-known within the genealogy community. However, information professionals who aid genealogists in their research may not know enough about the issue. How can the library field respond constructively to the issue of uncontrolled plagiarism in genealogy? While the genealogy community condemns plagiarism and offers resources to correct it, current library practices concentrate on services and not on plagiarism education in the genealogy context, concentrating more on copyright and legal problems. The Information Behaviors Of Fiction Writers: A Systematic Approach To An Understudied Information Community, Lisa Lowdermilk

Within the context of creative information communities in general, fiction writers remain a relatively understudied community. This article seeks to rectify that gap by highlighting the information behaviors of fiction writers, including the ways in which they network, as well as the processes they use when writing. In doing so, it reveals that fiction writers of all genres have many experiences in common, such as the "seed incident" that serves as the starting point when writing fiction. This issue of Library Technology Reports (vol. 55, no. 8), “Blockchain in Libraries,” examines the application of blockchain in libraries. Blockchain technology has the ability to transform how libraries provide services and organize information. To date, most of these applications are still in the conceptual stage. Over eleven hundred libraries across the United States and its territories participate in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) by providing public access to free government resources. In the last decade, there has been a significant shift as many government publications are being published only electronically. At the same time, several older physical collections are being digitized and made available online. This shift has caused many FDLP libraries to weed their older physical government document collections and increase their electronic holdings.

Hashtag Marbled Monday: A Webometric Analysis Of Academic Special Collections Outreach On Instagram, Carla Fulgham

This study used webometric analysis to assess the most successful strategies for engaging Instagram users in academic special collections. Data were collected from five academic special collections Instagram accounts to analyze their activity during the month of April 2018. Data considered in the study include average number of likes per post, average number of hashtags per post, and most common hashtags and content. The results of this analysis may serve as a recommendation for best practices for academic special collections interested in, or already using Instagram as a platform, to engage students and other Instagram users in their collections.
