Although the Arabic language is spoken by more than 300 million people and is one of the six official languages of the United Nations (UN), there has been less research done on Arabic text data (compared to English) in the realm of machine learning, especially in text classification. Workshop on data documentation, analysis & statistical software delivered online to the University of Central Florida (UCF)’s graduate students. This workshop is conducted by a Statistician at the College of Medicine and the Metadata Librarian at UCF. It includes five modules which focus on data basics, data documentation, dataset metadata, data analysis and statistical software. The data basics section introduces data, research data and dataset, the need for documenting and preserving research data. The data documentation and dataset metadata sections touch on researchers’ data practices and offer some general recommendations for a researcher’s research lifecycle. Digital Commons Southeastern User Group Meeting (2020) (Archived)

On the one-year anniversary of the CCU Digital Commons repository the organization of the Collections / Communities.html page was reviewed to gauge the need for revisions. Over 100 Digital Commons sites were examined to see how other repository managers organized their Collections pages. Top-level communities were coded into Community Types and were analyzed to surface trends in current practice. This presentation reviews trends in practice that emerged during research, as well as some of the best practices that were identified, including planning, iteration, labeling, limiting jargon, and finding a balance with top-level and nested content. The article offers information on how the digitized thesis and improved discovery. Topics include tracing its origins from accession and early digitization through to continuing consolidation and cleanup of decades' worth of data, the benefits of providing open access to the scholarship in the theses, and the inclusion in the institutional repository (IR) has been advantageous.

Mission-Driven Recordkeeping: The Need For Rim Staff In U.S. Nonprofit Organizations, Emily Mercer

As a robust and growing industry, often with strong ties to communities served, there is much potential for nonprofit organizations to harness powerful and rich databases of cultural information not found in any other sector. Yet research shows that in most cases, nonprofit organizations operate on limited budgets, tight deadlines, and may see the task of properly managing records as counter-productive to the mission of the organization. This research examines the systems of recordkeeping in nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and argues that record keeping staff must be considered an essential component for a nonprofit organization to survive and thrive.

Plagiarism is regarded as an academic crime, but can affect hobbies that rely on research and information sharing such as genealogy. The issue is well-known within the genealogy community. However, information professionals who aid genealogists in their research may not know enough about the issue. How can the library field respond constructively to the issue of uncontrolled plagiarism in genealogy? While the genealogy community condemns plagiarism and offers resources to correct it, current library practices concentrate on services and not on plagiarism education in the genealogy context, concentrating more on copyright and legal problems. The Information Behaviors Of Fiction Writers: A Systematic Approach To An Understudied Information Community, Lisa Lowdermilk

Within the context of creative information communities in general, fiction writers remain a relatively understudied community. This article seeks to rectify that gap by highlighting the information behaviors of fiction writers, including the ways in which they network, as well as the processes they use when writing. In doing so, it reveals that fiction writers of all genres have many experiences in common, such as the "seed incident" that serves as the starting point when writing fiction.
