Digital Commons@TMC, an online repository sponsored by The TMC Library, experienced a busy year with 702 new articles, images, dissertations, and audio-visual materials submissions (255% increase from 2022), bringing the total count to 8,338, viewed monthly by 7,066 institutions and 210 countries (up 5.5% from 2022) around the world.

The Digital Commons@TMC also includes historical materials. The McGovern Historical Center recently digitized and shared online more than 50 archival films, videos, and sound recordings. Digitization was made possible by funding from the South Central Academic Medical Libraries Consortium.

These materials illustrate his valuable contributions as a television host, engaging and educating both the public and the medical community through live medical consultations, surgical procedures, and international teleconferences. The Ferid Murad, MD papers consists of fifiteen handwritten notebooks documenting Dr. Ferid Murad's research. The notebooks include research data presented in tables and charts, as well as Dr. Murad's notes. The notebooks span the years 1959-1970. In addition, the collection includes a small number of printed materials from organizations of which Dr. Murad was a part. Notably, there are manuals from his internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, dating around 1965. See more at MS 106.

The Alan Cooper, MD papers document his career in psychiatry and mental health education in Houston, Texas. The collection includes syllabi, course materials, and correspondence relating to various classes and seminars. In addition, there are administrative publications from the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. The materials date from the mid-1970s to the early 1990s. See more at MS 153.

The Donald J. Fernbach, MD papers contain materials relating to his career in pediatric oncology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. A significant amount of material comes from the Southwest Cancer Chemotherapy Study Group, of which Dr. Fernbach was a founder, and its successors the Southwest Oncology Group and Pediatric Oncology Group. The John P. McGovern, MD Collection of Texas Historical Medical Documents includes historical deeds, medical records, bills, and receipts from the pre-Republic era to the beginning of the 20th century. 117 Texas medical personnel, primarily physicians, were the creators of these 146 digitized documents. The documents are listed alphabetically by the last name of the primary medical person associated with the item. The city and county shown for each individual are the Texas area where they lived the longest, were most active in their profession, or where the document originated. References are provided for as many personnel as possible. See …

The Sidney Schnur, MD papers document his work as a cardiologist and clinical professor at Baylor College of Medicine. The papers include materials related to St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, and a variety of professional organizations. Foremost among these are a number of records relating to the Harris County Medical Society around the time of his presidency in 1972. There are also records from his involvement in the American Heart Association, Houston Heart Association, and other groups. See more at MS 031.

The John P. McGovern Collection of Texas Historical Medical Documents has been fully processed and digitized. This collection, donated by Dr. John P. McGovern, includes medical ledgers, bills, apothecary receipts, legal documents, colonization contracts, a book about the effects of climate and weather changes on disease and death, correspondence, legislative and government records, official government seals, Republic-era currency, and more! All historical documents in this collection have been digitized and can be viewed and accessed alongside the finding aid.

Daniel J. McCarty, MD's papers primarily relate to the Arthritis Foundation and the American Rheumatism Association. Documents relate to committees, board material, and other subjects. In addition, there are a number of reprints. While the reprints date as early as 1960, the professional organization records that make up most of the collection come from the late 1970s and 1980s. The papers of John L. Decker, MD primarily document his work at the National Institute of Health (NIH) as well as his involvment in professional organizations. His travel to and participation in conferences, lectures, and professional committees make up a significant portion of the papers. The papers mostly correspond to Decker's stint at the NIH, 1965-1990. However some date as far back as 1931 and as late as 1992. See more at MS 088.
