The study aimed at examining the methods used in disposing off records and finding out the challenges hindering proper disposal of records and suggest recommendations to improve records disposal in Arua District Local Government.

The study adopted a non-experimental, qualitative, explanatory-descriptive approach that was contextual. Data was collected by means of interviewing and observation.

Community collaborations have become key drivers for the development of our library’s digital initiatives (DI) program. While collaborative partnerships can complicate the process of getting DI work completed, they can also positively contribute to decision making around digitization projects, metadata use, user interface (UI) design, and infrastructure development. This presentation outlines possibilities for iteratively developing digital infrastructure and service offerings to support community engaged research and discusses key issues to consider when developing such a program. Throughout Writing Program Administration scholarship there has been a clear call for archivization and archival work. This dissertation project takes an interdisciplinary approach to digital archival practices for Writing Program Administrators to consider and employ in their home institutions. While I recognize that WPAs are not typically identified as “archivists,” I situate the digital archive within the digital humanities as an interdisciplinary, collaborative project and offer suggestions that lead to recommendations for making an institutional archive. This study explores how a digital music archive tells the story and contributes to the public memory of cult bands. Utilizing the Grateful Dead Archive Online (GDAO) as the primary data source, the researcher obtained a population of 26,835 items and categorized them by the production method of fan or band, item type, era, and logo. Content analysis illustrated themes within the archive in relation to the fannish production and activity within the fandom of the Grateful Dead. The University of Oregon (UO) Libraries have been microfilming and preserving Oregon’s newspapers as a public service since the 1950s. However, microfilm production has become increasingly unsustainable due to the rising costs associated with maintaining microfilming equipment and supplies, and researchers increasingly prefer digital access to newspapers as opposed to microfilm access. In order to mitigate costs and meet user needs, the UO Libraries has transitioned from microfilm to digital to provide preservation and access services for current Oregon newspapers. This article outlines one in-house model for archiving and providing access to HTML-based news in the Kentucky Digital Newspaper Program (KDNP) at the University of Kentucky (UK). To allow for search and retrieval of HTML-based news in the KDNP which already contains news content digitized from analog sources, the encapsulation of HTML content using XML encoded CDATA strings read by a prototype open-source PHP viewer is described.

The Texas Digital Newspaper Program, operated by the University of North Texas Libraries, actively works to digitally preserve news in the form of print and born digital newspaper content via The Portal to Texas History. For two years, TDNP has partnered with the Texas Press Association to preserve born-digital newspaper titles from its member institutions. In 2015, in cooperation with IFLA News Media Section, The Center for Research Libraries conducted an in-depth assessment of the outputs of the major newspaper digitization efforts in the U.S. and Europe. The purpose of the assessment was to identify the comparative strengths and gaps in the corpus of newspapers digitized to date, relative to the total body of newspapers held by libraries. The findings of that assessment revealed a number of areas where cooperative action was required by libraries to address the persistent limitations in our shared effort.
