Five Newly Processed Dentistry Collections, Arthur Fowler

Five dental collections have been processed and are now available for research at the McGovern Historical Center collection search site.

These collections were processed by Arthur Fowler, while interning at the McGovern Historical Center this summer. These collections are almost 12 cubic feet of material. Materials included books, scrapbooks, papers, ephemera, plaques, and personal items belonging to dental professionals spanning 110 years from 1902 to 2012.

The medicines used for the Toxic Medicines and Toxic Books exhibit were selected based on their historical use to treat various ailments and diseases; however, these treatments are now known today to be quite harmful to human health. It is important to remember that the ideology around how the body works and how to treat disease has greatly changed over the last several centuries.

Creating resources that facilitate the preservation of community-based archives and ecological knowledge in the Louisiana coastal region is integral to its survival amongst the effects of climate change. Research and records created and stored within the Louisiana coastal region have a higher predisposition to the drastic and pervasive effects of climate change and natural disasters. Modern archivists can insert themselves into the work of climate change action through their advocacy of safeguarding collections that have been created by communities and individuals through raw scientific and observational data and unpublished research. This study aims to evaluate the Integrated Record Information System application (SRIKANDI) version 3, which is an Electronic Records Management System (ERMS), guided by ISO 16175-2:2011, particularly focusing on the aspect of creation. This study utilizes the method of descriptive qualitative by a literature study approach and direct observation of the SRIKANDI application. The research methodology includes preparation, conducting evaluations based on ISO 16175-2:2011, managing evaluation results, and drafting conclusions/findings. This study is motivated by the futuristic interior design and attractive facilities of the University of Indonesia (UI) Library, which create a comfortable environment. However, statistical data show a significant decline in student visits between September and December 2023. This phenomenon raises questions about the factors influencing users' experiences, particularly their perceptions of the library's interior design, which should ideally enhance comfort and increase visitation. This research is essential to understand how interior design affects user perception and visit rates, and to provide recommendations for improvements that could boost the library's appeal among students. This study aims to identify and analyze the marketing strategies implemented by the Trisakti School of Management (TSM) Library to enhance service quality and user satisfaction. Utilizing a qualitative approach with a case study method, the research offers in-depth insights through field observations, interviews with library staff, and document analysis. The findings reveal that TSM Library excels in high-quality imported book collections, comprehensive digital resources, and strategically located services. However, challenges include limited reading space and restricted operating hours. Your donation provides us enough funds to purchase preservation supplies for this box. That includes a new acid-free archival box and all the folders, buffered paper, and polyester document/photograph preservers needed to preserve the materials in that box.

Elsevier has recently highlighted The TMC Library’s Digital Commons Exhibits as one of their “Current DC Exhibit Customers” featured on their Digital Commons Exhibits page. Since 2023, The TMC Library started to add Digital Commons Exhibits to this online collection available to users worldwide. Currently there are 8 regular exhibits, as well as a scrolling exhibit available featuring a few of the following: Historical A/V, Houston’s Fight Against Tuberculosis and Christmas Seals (1911-1980s) and The History of the Texas Medical Center Library: From 1915 to Present.

Although public and school libraries, as well as many non-profit organizations regularly utilize volunteers, academic libraries are less likely to welcome them. This article describes the variety of volunteers received at Brown Library of Abilene Christian University and the tasks that they perform. It also presents a discussion of the motivation to accept volunteers, perhaps a faith practice.
