Beginning with a broad overview of community-oriented arguments for or against intellectual freedom (exemplified, in one case, by the writer and activist Wendell Berry), this chapter defines two forms of community: one active, the other passive. But do appeals to community make sense in environments increasingly hostile to intellectual freedom? In what ways have both of these forms already been weaponized by right-wing actors? The rise of computing infrastructure and data collection in higher education has opened the door for colleges and universities to begin large-scale data analytics projects, commonly known as learning analytics (LA). These initiatives are defined as the “measurement, collection, analysis, and reporting of [student and other data] for the purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs.” Historically, academic libraries have collected data, such as circulation statistics, without reference to specific users. The Tiger Tales Oral History Digital Exhibit began in 2018 as an effort to promote Forsyth Library’s self-service video studio and Special Collections. The project is a marriage of the creative technologies of the library’s Learning Commons Media Lab paired with images from its archives to capture the stories of Tiger alumni, students, faculty, and staff spanning generations about their time at Fort Hays State. Forsyth’s Outreach Team adds their talents to the project recruiting interview subjects, often in collaboration with the FHSU Foundation and Alumni Office. Journal hijacking, which refers to the attempted brand takeover of a journal by a third party, is a nascent threat confronting the information systems (IS) community, as evidenced by cybercriminals having established an online presence, masquerading as the Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems (SJIS). The SJIS hijacking damages the journal's reputation, leads to payment and publication scams, involves identity theft among unsuspecting IS researchers, and results in tarnished author reputations. This case study describes an academic library’s student-developed communal space for the purposes of creating, collaborating, and project development. The story begins with an exciting process and partnership developed between University of Dayton (UD) Libraries and UD’s Institute of Applied Creativity for Transformation (IACT). An IACT experiential learning program led 12 students to research and reimagine the role of the campus library, which resulted in Concourse D, “where projects take flight,” a prototyped transdisciplinary project development studio. The purposes of this explanatory sequential mixed methods study were to examine the self-efficacy beliefs of school librarians about integrating technology during inquiry-based learning during the quantitative phase and then to explore how these practices about technology integration during inquiry-based learning were being implemented during the qualitative phase. This study was conducted to better understand the self-efficacy beliefs of school librarians and how they provided students with authentic and meaningful experiences when integrating technology during inquiry-based learning. Gender and whiteness structure library work in ways that continue to lack sustained critical attention, particularly in the research literature on library leadership and management. In 2020 just over 83% of librarians identified as women and as white, non-Hispanic. And 78.6% of library technicians and assistants identified as white, non-Hispanic. These demographics make librarians a slightly less diverse workforce than other professionals in educational jobs. Despite being a female-intensive and overwhelmingly white profession, the scholarship on leadership and management published in mainstream library and information science journals (LIS) rarely employs explicitly feminist frameworks or perspectives. Organizational politics is present in every secular establishment including the library with its attendant pros and cons. The paper aims to describe the observed interplay between organizational politics, motivation, and job performance of academic library staff to achieve organizational goals and promote workplace peace and harmony. The study employed a qualitative approach based on personal observation by the researchers and interviews of library managers conveniently selected from four academic libraries in Nigeria; two from the south–south and two from the south–west geopolitical zones. It employed a descriptive survey design. The population of the study was registered postgraduate students in five universities libraries in 2017/2018 academic year comprising of 1,522 users. This case study examines the research support services provided by the Panjab University Library (PUL), India, and presents a clear picture of its services. The study aims to identify research support service issues discussed in academic libraries' literature, evaluate the methods used to provide research support services at PUL, and develop strategies to accelerate the delivery of research support services based on best practices and lessons learned from other academic libraries. This case study examined the U.S. Army’s implementation of knowledge management (KM) as an integrating process within its command and control system. The research problem explored was the U.S. Army’s attempts to measure knowledge transfer using the KM Maturity Model (KM3) and KM Assessment Tool (KMAT). The purpose was to determine levels of KM maturity and knowledge barriers that affected decision-making. Web archives, such as the Internet Archive, preserve the web and allow access to prior states of web pages. We implicitly trust their versions of archived pages, but as their role moves from preserving curios of the past to facilitating present day adjudication, we are concerned with verifying the fixity of archived web pages, or mementos, to ensure they have always remained unaltered. However, these research fields are still limited by the sheer volume, versatility, and diversity of the available datasets. Here, we present a protocol to isolate progenitor cells from mouse epididymal visceral adipose tissue and construct bulk RNA and assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with sequencing (ATAC-seq) libraries. We describe steps for adipose tissue collection, cell isolation, and cell staining and sorting. We then detail procedures for both ATAC-seq and RNA sequencing library construction. This protocol can also be applied to other tissues and cell types directly or with minor modifications.

We team teach a semester-long credit-bearing information literacy course for urban community college students in New York City’s South Bronx. It is a capstone course, designed to support students at the end of their first two years of college as they consider the next stage in their own development, be that transferring to a four-year institution or entering the workforce. For this course, we have constructed an approach to critical reading that combines explicit exploration of academic and disciplinary genres with an investigation into the processes of knowledge production and communication shared by the individuals who produce them.
