The library faculty teaches approximately three hundred one-time instructional classes per year. This study explored the role of the library instructor in support of serving the needs of first-year writers (FYW) in a discourse community (DC). The English faculty teach English Composition I, the FYW develop their writing skills in a community with shared goals and an established means of communicating. This qualitative study explored: (1) in-depth experiences of the English faculty during library one-time instructional classes; (2) their perceptions of what students need most, in the new curriculum; (3) new findings that would guide the design of digital tools …

This thesis contains and organizes a variety of online educational resources including articles, books, games, organizations, podcasts, tools and videos related to promoting news literacy. The purpose of the website is to make this information more accessible and the topic of news literacy feel less daunting. The written component of this thesis describes the design process of the website — conceptualization, layout, wireframing — as well as the research process. A link to the final website is included.

Co-Creation Of A Training For Community Health Workers To Enhance Skills In Serving Lgbtqia+ Communities, Vanessa Kitzie, Julie Smithwick, Carmen Blanco, M. Greg Green, Sarah Covington-Kolb

This paper describes creating and implementing a 30-h LGBTQIA+ specialty training for community health workers (CHWs). The training was co-developed by CHW training facilitators (themselves CHWs), researchers with expertise in LGBTQIA+ populations and health information, and a cohort of 11 LGBTQIA+ CHWs who theater tested and piloted the course. The research and training team collected cohort feedback through focus groups and an evaluative survey. Findings stress the importance of a curriculum designed to elicit lived experiences and informed by a pedagogical framework centered on achieving LGBTQIA+ visibilities. This paper presents results from a participatory action research study with 46 LGBTQIA+ community leaders and 60 library workers who participated in four community forums at public libraries across the US. The forums identified barriers to LGBTQIA+ communities addressing their health questions and concerns and explored strategies for public libraries to tackle them. Forums followed the World Café format to facilitate collaborative knowledge development and promote participant-led change. Data sources included collaborative notes taken by participants and observational researcher notes. Results revealed that barriers experienced by LGBTQIA+ communities are structurally and socially entrenched and require systematic changes. Public libraries must …

Inclusive workplaces start with inclusive hiring practices and then the design and support of inclusive workplace cultures once a hire is settled. The process includes consideration of why you are looking for diverse candidates, writing inclusive job descriptions and job ads, inclusive interviewing considerations, and building an inclusive work environment and culture. Each of these considerations can be examined through a tripartite approach, exploring ways to ensure physical, intellectual, and social needs are addressed and met throughout each stage of the hiring and retention process.

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาลักษณะของเอกสารจดหมายเหตุประเภทแผนที่ที่หอจดหมายเหตุแห่งชาติได้รับมอบและจัดเก็บไว้ รวมถึงแหล่งที่มาและวิธีการได้มา และศึกษาการดำเนินงานการแปลงเอกสารจดหมายเหตุประเภทแผนที่ให้เป็นดิจิทัลของสำนักหอจดหมายเหตุแห่งชาติ ในด้านนโยบายการแปลงให้เป็นดิจิทัล ด้านขั้นตอนการแปลงให้เป็นดิจิทัล และปัญหาที่ประสบ โดยใช้แบบสัมภาษณ์เป็นเครื่องมือในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูล ผลการวิจัยพบว่า สำนักหอจดหมายเหตุแห่งชาติส่วนใหญ่จัดเก็บเอกสารจดหมายเหตุประเภทแผนที่ที่มีลักษณะเป็นแผนที่ แผนผัง และแบบแปลน โดยได้รับเอกสารจดหมายเหตุประเภทแผนที่จากหน่วยงานภาครัฐ และมีการกำหนดนโยบายการแปลงเอกสารจดหมายเหตุประเภทแผนที่ให้เป็นดิจิทัล หอจดหมายเหตุแห่งชาติส่วนใหญ่จัดจ้างหน่วยงานภายนอกให้ดำเนินการแปลงเอกสารจดหมายเหตุประเภทแผนที่ให้เป็นดิจิทัลโดยมีการกำหนดราละเอียดการว่าจ้างได้แก่ ค่าใช้จ่ายมีความเหมาะสมกับงบประมาณที่หอจดหมายเหตุแห่งชาติได้รับ ความรวดเร็วในการส่งมอบงาน และหน่วยงานผู้รับจ้างมีประสบการณ์หรือเคยได้รับการว่าจ้างจากหอจดหมายเหตุในโครงการก่อนหน้า และหอจดหมายเหตุแห่งชาติมีการกำหนดประเภทของไฟล์ดิจิทัลที่โดยใช้รูปแบบ JPEG และ TIFF ที่มีความละเอียดระหว่าง 200-600 dpi และใช้สื่อจัดเก็บประเภทฮาร์ดไดรฟ์ ปัญหาที่ประสบได้แก่ ปัญหาด้านงบประมาณ ปัญหาด้านบุคลากร ปัญหาด้านนโยบาย และปัญหาด้านเทคโนโลยี

หนังสือหายากดิจิทัลของห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยในไทยมีจำนวนเพิ่มขึ้นบนสภาพแวดล้อมทางเทคโนโลยีที่พัฒนาและเปลี่ยนแปลงรวดเร็วรุดหน้าไปกว่าองค์ความรู้ในการจัดการ เพื่อให้สามารถเข้าถึงและใช้งานหนังสือหายาดิจิทัลในระยะยาว งานวิจัยนี้จึงเน้นศึกษาการประยุกต์มาตรฐานเมทาดาทาเพื่อการสงวนรักษาพรีมิสสำหรับคอลเลกชันหนังสือหายากดิจิทัลในบริบทห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัย 3 แห่งในไทย เพื่อเป็นแนวทางกำหนดหน่วยเชิงความหมายในเอ็นทิตี (Entities) และกำหนดค่าข้อมูลในแต่ละหน่วยเชิงความหมายที่เหมาะสมกับบริบทความต้องการของหนังสือหายากดิจิทัล การศึกษาพบว่าบรรณารักษ์ของห้องสมุดทั้ง 3 แห่งกำหนดใช้ 3 เอ็นทิตี ได้แก่ วัตถุ (Object) เหตุการณ์ (Event) และตัวกระทำ (Agent) แต่ไม่เลือกใช้เอ็นทิตีสิทธิ์ (Rights) และกำหนดระดับความสำคัญของหน่วยเชิงความหมายใน 3 เอ็นทิตีที่ระดับความสำคัญต่างกันในแต่ละหน่วยงาน และแตกต่างกับระดับความสำคัญที่ปรากฏในรายการหน่วยเชิงความหมายต้นแบบ นอกจากนี้ บรรณารักษ์ที่เข้าร่วมการศึกษาทั้งหมดมีการกำหนดค่าข้อมูลและรูปแบบค่าข้อมูล และใช้แหล่งค่าข้อมูลที่คล้ายกัน เพราะมีกระบวนการจัดการและบรรณารักษ์ผู้ดูแลคอลเลกชันหนังสือหายากดิจิทัลที่มีประสบการณ์และองค์ความรู้ในการปฏิบัติงานที่ใกล้เคียงกัน ปัญหาที่พบจากการใช้มาตรฐานพรีมิส ได้แก่ ความซับซ้อนของมาตรฐานพรีมิสซึ่งกระทบต่อความสามารถในการเรียนรู้และเข้าใจมาตรฐาน ตลอดจนการกำหนดค่าข้อมูลและรูปแบบค่าข้อมูลของบรรณารักษ์ ความสับสนจากลักษณะโครงสร้างของมาตรฐาน และความกังวลเรื่องความสอดคล้องของมาตรฐานกับระบบที่หน่วยงานใช้งานอยู่ และพบความต้องการสิ่งสนับสนุนเพื่อการประยุกต์ใช้มาตรฐานพรีมิสสำหรับหนังสือหายากดิจิทัล ได้แก่ คู่มือ กรณีศึกษา และผู้เชี่ยวชาญ นอกจากนี้ยังพบความต้องการสิ่งสนับสนุนอื่น ๆ ได้แก่ การศึกษาช่องว่างระหว่างมาตรฐานพรีมิสกับระบบคลังสารสนเทศดิจิทัล ข้อมูลชี้แหล่งค่าข้อมูล เครื่องมือสกัดและบันทึกข้อมูลแทนคน (Automation) และองค์ความรู้ที่จำเป็นต่อการใช้งานมาตรฐานเมทาดาทาพรีมิส

This chapter describes the creation of the Archive Kit, which is a digital teaching tool. It consists of a collection of digitized letters from the University of New Mexico's special collections, a worksheet, and a lesson plan. The growth of scientific papers in the past decades calls for effective claim extraction tools to automatically and accurately locate key claims from unstructured text. Such claims will benefit content-wise aggregated exploration of scientific knowledge beyond the metadata level. One challenge of building such a model is how to effectively use limited labeled training data. In this paper, we compared transfer learning and contrastive learning frameworks in terms of performance, time and training data size. We found contrastive learning has better performance at a lower cost of data across all models. Our contrastive-learning-based model ClaimDistiller has the highest performance, boosting …

This research article reports the findings of a survey that was conducted at two community colleges affiliated with a large public university system in the Northeast of the United States. A survey was to explore community college students’ citation management help- seeking habits. Findings suggest that respondents were more likely to utilize Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab (OWL) website for reference management help than other resources. The results also show the impact of various factors (i.e., institution, academic level, undergraduate class level, field of study, age, gender, race/ethnicity, and user type) on students’ citation help -seeking practices. The study assessed the role of Telecentres in the dissemination of agro-based information among selected farmers in rural areas of Tanzania. A cross-sectional study design was conducted in Moshi Rural District, in Kilimanjaro Region, Tanzania. A total of 442 rural farmers aged 21-60 years were randomly selected as study respondents. Questionnaires were used to collect data from respondents. The study found that 205 (55%) respondents were not aware of the existence and services offered among Telecentres, whereas only 12 (7%) respondents reported visiting Telecentres once per day, and 70 (41%) once per year. This study investigates the adoption and use of plagiarism software among postgraduate students in universities in South-west Nigeria. Employing a survey research design and random sampling, thirty-four postgraduate students from each of the universities were selected.
