Since 2017, the University of Miami Libraries (UML) has engaged with key stakeholders and institutional leaders to adapt and build a centralized, sustainable Research Information Management System (RIMS) helping to curate, manage, and promote institutional research output. This paper details the development and rollout of Esploro by Ex Libris (locally branded Scholarship@Miami), the Institutional Repository (IR), and the RIM system for the University of Miami (UM). The UML Esploro Implementation team leveraged Esploro’s Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning features to train the system to automatically capture and fetch relevant scholarly outputs produced by researchers affiliated with UM. This presentation will explore perspectives on hiring practices from both sides of the table. The library's first residency search and subsequent faculty searches integrated leading recruitment and high-empathy hiring practices. The residency search committee chair, one of the successful residency candidates, and a tenure-track faculty hired using the new approach team up to dissect the hiring process from their perspectives. They will discuss the work behind critically examining the existing hiring process, designing a recruitment plan, and implementing a new structure in order to ensure empathy to applicants going through the process. The Elwin L. Shelton, Jr., MD papers consists largely of materials related to his professional life, such as presentations and publications, published and unpublished papers, and accreditations. There are copies of Medical Director's Notebook from 1957-1960. There are also materials on topics such as philosophy, hypnosis, intestinal by-pass, GI, breast, and peritoneal dialysis research. Some items pertain to the Texas Surgical Society, Southern Society of Clinical Surgeons, and Houston Gastroenterological Society. The collection ranges in dates from 1948-1990. See more at MS 082.

The Harold Pruessner, MD papers contains documents relating to his role at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, particularly in the Department of Family Practice. Contents include articles, curricula, training material, information about family practice, and other administrative materials. There is also an audio recording of an interview with Dr. Pruessner from 1998. Items date from 1964 to 1998, with most of them corresponding to his time in Houston, Texas. See more at MS 083.

Librarians from four different institutions of higher learning partnered to create a survey to ascertain student attitudes towards eBook use in academic libraries as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Survey results have revealed students experienced greater exposure to eBooks in their academic programs as a result of remote learning during the pandemic. Additional student responses will help librarians determine what kinds of investment should be made in eBook collections going forward, and what kinds of support can be provided to enhance academic eBooks experiences.

Objective – The University of New Hampshire (UNH) Library conducted an exploratory study of the pedagogical practices of social science instructors at UNH who teach using quantitative data in undergraduate courses. This study is connected to a suite of parallel studies at other higher education institutions that was designed and coordinated by Ithaka S+R.

The paper discusses how a small academic library has incorporated user perspectives when redesigning and reimagining the library amid pandemic uncertainties. During the Fall of 2020, when the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) library was reopening after the pandemic, the library space was moved to a much smaller space to accommodate additional physical space requirements for undergraduate classes. In February 2023, the Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar library tested a new outreach program in collaboration with the Robotics club. It was intended for the whole community but primarily for students from majors other than computer science, and relatively unfamiliar with coding and AI concepts. This media toolkit contains materials used by Utah State University to promote faculty and student involvement in green open access by encouraging them to submit their accepted papers to the institutional repository. The graphics in the toolkit are designed to attract attention and generate interest in the repository. Librarians at Middlesex University Dubai (an international branch satellite campus of a British University) designed and implemented the Academic Aptitude Assessment (or Triple A), an online interactive resource to assist new student transitioning into university. The intervention has been devised to assess and compare levels of confidence versus actual academic skills within six areas.
