Job Search During Covid: A New Librarian Navigating A New Normal, Isabel Soto-Luna

For nearly the last two years, we have faced new challenges in unprecedented ways due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to current technology, however, we have been able to get creative to keep things moving as much as possible and find new ways to do things, including searching for jobs. Like many others, I found myself having to traverse a job search process that involved doing only virtual interviews. In my case, however, I am a new librarian (class of 2018) and this was my first full job search in the profession.

In 2017, the Sherrod Library at East Tennessee State University launched the Library Ambassador Program (LAP), a peer-reference program through which trained undergraduate students employed by the library are stationed in buildings across campus to help students with their research. Just as the LAP was gaining traction, COVID-19 forced a quick transition to online mode. This presentation will discuss the value we found in shifting our program online and how the LAP functions now in a hybrid space, supporting information literacy both online and in-person across campuses. In this investigation, the researcher adopted a descriptive strategy. The main objective of the paper is to get an understanding of the use of electronic resources by the library user. This study aims to assess users’ satisfaction with the National Library of Pakistan (NLP). The study variables include facilities, collection, services, and attitude/behavior of staff along with demographics and open-ended comments. To carry out the objectives of the study, a semi-structured paper questionnaire using a modified Likert-type scale is administered personally by the principal researcher. Responses from one hundred (100) users are obtained employing a non-probability (accidental, voluntary) sampling technique. The majority of users show their satisfaction against all the variables. The study examined the awareness and usability of online library research support platforms among undergraduate students at Kumasi Technical University in Ghana. 126 respondents were sampled and respectively drawn from all the seven faculties that consist of the student population. A descriptive survey method was employed to obtain data from the various faculties using a questionnaire. Analysis of data gathered was carried out using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS), version 20 and excel 2016 for descriptive statistics using percentages. This article discusses the needs of autistic teenagers with low support needs and how best to cultivate and promote inclusivity in libraries to better serve this vulnerable sector of the community. Librarians should endeavour to understand the difficulties they encounter and how to minimize factors that might exacerbate these issues if autistic adolescents are to feel welcome and accepted.

In Open and Equitable Scholarly Communications, ACRL calls for more diverse and inclusive collection development (CD) by academic libraries and archives. Meanwhile, higher education is increasingly committing to community-engaged scholarship. This study investigated the extent to which academic libraries and archives are collecting, curating, and/or preserving knowledge produced by their local public communities. Researchers administered an electronic survey to relevant listservs and conducted follow-up interviews to develop a case study of one library’s efforts. In Fall semester 2021, Sherrod Library at ETSU provided the Personal Librarian (PL) program to First Generation and Transfer students. The PL contacts over 1600 students weekly by email, providing a newsletter with University and Library services. The PL also connected on a personal level with a YouTube video bi-monthly. The program was designed to build a relationship with the students so that they are comfortable asking for help and feel more confident in their ability to receive assistance.

During the initial consultation with a graduate student, I often review the steps of a SR and suggest resources about the SR methodology.
