These are the (PDF) slides from a Campus Conversation session examining bibliometrics by demonstrating the functionality of Web of Science (InCItes), Scopus, and Google Scholar. This session was intended to assist researchers with contextualizing research and research publications through the use of bibliometrics. This session also examined the many perils of bibliometrics as well as alternative research metrics.

The public's trust in the news has declined to low levels, and evidence shows this distrust has led to barriers between people and groups. The Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University (SCU) has partnered with over 75 news organizations on a Trust Project to establish industry-wide standards to restore the public's trust in the news. News and social media partners have committed to a set of Trust Indicators including information on sponsorship and ethics, journalists' qualifications, and how stories were researched. Access To Humanities Scholarship Through Public Search Engines, Jody C. Fagan, Malia Willey

While research has shown search engine coverage of science and social science scholarship rivals traditional library databases, the coverage or utility of public search engines for the humanities needs further exploration. This presentation will report results from at least two empirical research studies that investigated access to humanities scholarship via public search engines (e.g. Google, Google Scholar, Google Books, Microsoft Academic). We will propose additional research ideas that we hope will inspire future studies.

Social Media And Study Habits Of Secondary School Students In Anambra State, Nigeria, Chibueze Maureen

This study investigated social media use and study habits of secondary school students in Anambra State. Three research questions guided the study while four null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The design of the study was descriptive survey. The population of the study is 4,996 consisting of Senior Secondary Two (SS2) students from public secondary schools in Awka Education Zone of Anambra State. While the electronic publishing of books and scores has become commonplace, e-publishing of scores by major music publishers has lagged-behind. Libraries and music publishers are unwilling to relinquish the print format, but the proliferation of music notation software has given rise to greater numbers of self-publishing composers, keen to sell and deliver their musical works in PDF.

Building on the successful 2017 presentation, A Primer in Science and Engineering Collection Development, this presentation will explore a content type that stumps the engineering librarian and acquisitions librarian alike - standards. Technical standards are documents that establish a uniform practice or process for materials, procedures, and products. Each of us uses standards daily - from USB ports to elevators to lights, automobiles, bridges, standardized train tracks, and much more. Standards are prepared and issued by a professional groups, committees, societies, or governmental agencies, and can influence safety and performance and the role of business and manufacturing.
