I begin to feel as if I’d been wandering around with these false documents permanently tattooed to my hand, forcing me to walk through life in a story not really my own.
Nothing To Write Home About: Aphorisms Against Actuality, Daniel Kissinger, Maisha Manson
Nothing To Write Home About: Aphorisms Against Actuality, Daniel Kissinger, Maisha Manson
Proceedings from the Document Academy
We ask the reader to consider what the claiming of home and home-ness means. For you, for each of us, for our nation. We jump between different documents and documentations of what it means to be, to make, to keep, to establish, to live at home. We look, particularly, to the aphorisms that collect around the sense and feeling of home, and home-ness. We posit counter-documents from historical archives to these structures of feeling which function to make (some of) us feel “at home,” or at least a certain way, while pushing out those who are marked as unwanted, who …

Telos Haunts Billboards, Colin Post
Telos Haunts Billboards, Colin Post
Proceedings from the Document Academy
This piece is an excerpt from an ongoing hypertext poem, akhilleus, which chronicles the activities of a network of characters interacting with the built world via text. This particular piece follows Telos, a seer of ends, as they appear before a billboard. Telos contemplates billboards as a kind of document, a succession of information planes along the roadway, echoing into and past each other, and also shares a premonition of the end of billboards.
The Gen Book And Transtextuality, Hilary Yerbury
The Gen Book And Transtextuality, Hilary Yerbury
Proceedings from the Document Academy
This piece suggests that although individuals can make decisions not to speak of difficult times in their lives, documents with the multiple relationships created through transtextuality can act as silent witnesses to these unspoken times.
Keepers: Marking The Value Of The Books On My Shelves, Vassiliki Veros
Keepers: Marking The Value Of The Books On My Shelves, Vassiliki Veros
Proceedings from the Document Academy
Lydia Pyne in her Object Lessons book, Bookshelf, says, “Bookshelves are dynamic, iterative objects that cue us to the social values we place on books and how we think books ought to be read.”
This cued me to reflect upon the books that I keep on my personal bookshelves and my deep engagement with them. This is evidenced through the markings and non-markings that my keeper books compelled me to make/not make. I then use my own engagement with my books to make various responses to positive and negative critiques of romance fiction.

Proceedings from the Document Academy
In response to the changing landscape of academic publishing, this special issue called for poetic engagements with questions of scholarly interest. In putting together this issue, we sought to showcase without evisceration the complex roles that documents play in human life.
Using The Anti-Racism Digital Library And Thesaurus To Understand Information Access, Authority, Value And Privilege, Anita Coleman
Using The Anti-Racism Digital Library And Thesaurus To Understand Information Access, Authority, Value And Privilege, Anita Coleman
Faculty Publications
The new ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, specifically the six threshold concepts about information mirror the experiences of the author as a researcher studying the representation of anti-racism in bibliographic information systems. Anti-racism, in general, is a great concept to use when teaching information literacy and the paper discusses how antiracism information literacy can be taught and learned as part of theological and religious studies education. Since the conference is in Atlanta, the article begins with two stories about the scholar Dubois who lived there and that illustrate some of the IL concepts discussed.

Alma/Primo Management In A Post-Migration World, Kate Seago, Julene L. Jones
Library Presentations
While on Voyager, the University of Kentucky had a committee dedicated to handling releases and policies for the system. During our migration to Alma and Primo we moved to taskforces to manage the migration, putting that committee on hold. Post-migration, we revived the ILS Committee and updated the charge to handle Alma/Primo releases and policies. This presentation will briefly discuss the procedures we’re using to manage Alma and Primo releases, training, set policies, and communicate with library staff post-migration. We’d like to leave time for audience participation to find out how others are managing these processes at their institutions.

Our students have to learn so many new skills to be successful in law school and law practice. Legal research, client interviewing, and case analysis just for starters. Our teaching methods have to engage our students while preparing them to “think like a lawyer.” We also have the responsibility to familiarize students in evaluating the “benefits and risks associated with relevant technology” and to develop efficient practices and processes. The speakers will look at decision making models that are practical and useable.
One speaker will discuss his experiences in a clinical setting using decision trees, teaching his students to visualize …

Lawyer ≠ Luddite, Jason Tubinis, Khelani Clay, Jim Henneberger, Zanada Joyner, Shannon Roddy

Being a competent attorney means being a competent technologist. ABA Model Rule 1.1 (Competence) requires all lawyers to stay abreast of technology even if they still use a Dictaphone and typewriter and think “the cloud” refers to the fluffy white stuff in the sky. It can be malpractice to misuse or misunderstand technology, and this misuse can take many forms. Lack of familiarity with technology can lead to improper production of confidential information, delays in litigation, wasting time and client funds, ending up on Above the Law (and not in a good way), and more.
Legal technology courses are becoming …

The First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Bridgewater started in what was then called the “South Parish” of Bridgewater. In 1717, John Washburn deeded two acres of land “to the inhabitants of the southern part of Bridgewater to build them a meeting house” and to use part of the land for a burial ground. The first meeting house, built in 1717, was enlarged in 1741. A second meeting house was built in 1760.
The Church and Bridgewater State University have a long history of collaboration as neighbors. The first Principal of the Bridgewater Normal School, Nicholas Tillinghast, was a Deacon …

Records Risk Assessment At A Hospital In Zimbabwe, Njabulo Bruce Khumalo Mr
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Many organisations usually do not value records management until a time when disaster strikes and records are destroyed. In most institutions, there is a lack of preparedness as there are no records risk assessments and records management systems are not assessed to find how they are performing. Without records risk assessment activities in especially hospitals, records will continue to deteriorate, be lost or even accessed by unauthorised people. Without proper records risk assessments, disasters are likely to strike and destroy records which are the basis for business transactions, continuity and evidence. Purpose of the Study: This study will seek to …

Library And Information Services To The Visually Impaired Persons, Junaid Rayini
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Visually impaired people have the same information needs as sighted people. Just as sighted people might read a newspaper, listen to a CD or download electronic information from the Internet; visually impaired people also want access to relevant information in their chosen accessible format. Developing an efficient library service for print-disabled people is extremely important, because there are significantly fewer books available commercially in accessible formats compared to what is published in print for the general public. Libraries have a moral obligation to make information available to all categories of users regardless of their gender, age, race, political affiliation or …

Exploring Every Inch Of Harrisonburg: The Robert J. Sullivan Jr. Papers, Grace Barth, Kate Morris
Libraries
Acquired by JMU Special Collections in 2014, the Robert J. Sullivan Papers include photographs and over eleven hundred slides documenting the city of Harrisonburg, Virginia during a critical period of growth during urban renewal initiatives from the mid-to-late 20th century. While digitization of the images from this collection allowed us to share it with researchers and the local community, the process of facilitating access revealed several unexpected challenges. Quick adaptability and establishing valuable partnerships were among the many factors that allowed for the successful completion of this project.
