Viewing History From The Sky: Geo-Rectification Of An Aerial Photography Collection, Kate F. Boyd

After years of looking for funding, in 2013 USC Libraries was awarded a grant from the Gaylord & Donnelly Foundation to scan and geo-rectify the South Carolina historical aerial photographs from 1930-1980s. This presentation, given at the Digital Library Federation Forum in 2016, documents the efforts to receive funding and the process of bring these photographs online for users. Thanks to Bill Sudduth of Government Information for his efforts in continuing this process.

This paper presents the analysis of core journals and subject-wise coverage of journals in the field of Breast Cancer for the period 1965 to 2014 in the MEDLINE data which are covered in the Pubmed. The purpose of this study is to identify the core journals and its subject-wise coverage of journals in the discipline of Breast Cancer. The majority of the records were journal articles. In zone-1, 10 journals associated with Oncology, 3 journals are associated with Medicine, 2 with Surgery, one each with Nursing, Nutrition and Public Health. In 2014, SAA and RBMS appointed joint task forces to address the challenges that archival repositories face related to metrics and assessment. The task forces are drafting proposed metrics and standards, but calls for how to implement data gathering continue. This session will share case studies on the implementation of data gathering from the ground up, metrics and assessment in instruction and reference, and identifying the best and most efficient ways to quantify resources for assessment and decision making. A need existed to connect the dots between library collection development and resource sharing cooperatives, where the strength of resource sharing groups is the strength of the combined, diversified collections of its members. 1. Use URIs as names for things.
2. Use HTTP URIs so that people can look up those names.
3. When someone looks up a URI, provide useful information, using the standards (RDF*, SPARQL).

Recent studies have shown that despite possible preconceptions, e-books in art and architecture subject areas are actually quite well used. By collaborating across four SCELC-affiliated Southern California institutions (Claremont Colleges Library, Loyola Marymount University, Pepperdine University, and the University of Southern California), we engaged in extensive usage analyses to understand more about what might motivate art and architecture researchers to seek out e-books, and compare that usage to print books.

Citation Analyses Of Doctoral Dissertation Of Public Administration: A Study Of Panjab University, Chandigarh, Preeti Mahajan, Anil Kumar

ABSTRACT

The present study analysed 7490 citations appended in the 60 Ph.D. theses of Public Administration submitted to Panjab University, Chandigarh, for the award of doctoral degree during 2002-2012. The study analysed the several parameters such as authorship pattern of the citations, form of literature cited, half-life of books and journals and compiled a rank list of journals in Public Administration. The study found that the highest number of citations to research work by single authors was higher in case of both books (2782, 87.02%) and journals (1785, 87.12%). Books comprised the highest citations (3197, 42.68%) followed by journals (2049, …

As e-books have come to hold a major impact on library collection building activities, the influence of reviews of titles and the on-going conversion of titles to a digital format have significant potential impacts for libraries. Reviewing tools such as Choice and the lag-time between publication notice of the print edition of a work and its corresponding e-version asks the questions, “How many of the print titles that are reviewed in Choice have a corresponding e-version ready for purchase?” and “How used are those e-versions in comparison with print?”

Three universities (Santa Clara University, the University of San Francisco, Loyola Marymount University) are leveraging patron-initiated borrowing data to inform our collection development. Expanding on a pilot project that began in 2014, we have been looking at five years of recent borrowing data, along with five years of acquisition data and five years of circulation data of local collections, to help us define what a "normal" level of borrowing looks like as well as identify gaps in local collections. German universities built over the years highly specialized book collections for use by faculty and graduate students. The German term, “Seminarbibliothek,” is often applied to these types of collections, although examples can be found in universities across Europe. The purpose of this paper is to examine a similar type of collection using e-books in veterinary science and to compare this collection to the standard subject classified e-book collections. The study looks at how such a collection might be formed and defined and what possible effects this might have on the use of collections of this type.
