Circulation Policy For Undergraduate Students At Margaret Bridwell Art Library., Sarah C. Carter

This article examines the foundation of the Margaret Bridwell Art Library at the University of Louisville, and highlights the recent reversal of a 52-year circulation policy restricting undergraduate students from borrowing materials from the branch library. The article examines the rationale for the policy at the time it was implemented, and the recent circumstances leading to change. Factors considered during decision-making and implementation are also reviewed.

Background: The purpose of this research project is to highlight the benefits of peer mentoring as an ongoing resource for career advancement and retention among alumni of the Association of Research Libraries’ Career Enhancement Program (CEP) and Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce (IRDW) program. We define peer mentoring as informal mentoring that happens between individuals to promote career success. This project is in response to “White Librarianship in Blackface: Diversity Initiatives in LIS” in which one of Hathcock’s criticisms of current diversity initiatives is the focus on increasing numbers without addressing long-term retention.

In this thesis, the continuing relevance of the profession of librarianship in the digital age is explored and assessed. After defining the library as information itself, the thesis establishes that electronic formats replacing printed matter is not an indication of libraries becoming extinct. Further, various aspects of the profession of librarianship—including library ethics, information extraction skills, and information literacy instruction—are discussed. Additionally, the potential for librarians to play an important role in a largely “jobless” society (as forecast by some experts and scholars as well as in a recent Oxford University study) is evaluated. How successful is ERA in measuring creative research? The ERA (2015) results would appear to advantage: citations over peer review, traditional research over non-traditional outputs and certain geographical locations over others. If indeed this is true, what are the implications for the future development of NTOs in this country given the recent article by NAVA (Winikoff, 2016), presenting the debate about the state of play of our art schools as one of survival and loss. The case for survival is one that needs to be closely examined where local and geographical factors are at play.

Education stakeholders recognize the importance of establishing a culture of reading within a school. Many schools are using supplemental reading programs, like Accelerated Reader (AR), to support reading instruction and to encourage independent reading opportunities with their students (What Works Clearinghouse, 2010). This paper attempts to highlight the publication status and growth of nuclear physics research across the world by way of analyzing various features of research output based on Web of Science database. A total of 32286 publications were published on nuclear physics during the period 2004-2013. It was found that the number of published articles was higher in USA, Germany, Japan, Italy, France, China and Russia, etc. The highest number of publications 5,407 (16.75%) was published in 2012. The average number of publications published per year was 3228.6. The highest growth rate (64.90%) was observed in 2012. Out of the …

The paper presents an analysis of 11181 global publications in medical physics, indexed in Web of science database during 2000-2013; the average number of publications published per year was 798.64. Out of 11181 publications, maximum of 5014 (44.84%) publications have been contributed by mega authors, followed by multi authors with 3588 (32.09%) publications. The value of co authorship index for mega authored publications is the highest. The highest value of collaboration coefficient is 0.67 in 2013. This paper discusses the information needs of urban and peri-urban livestock keepers and the various information sources used and their effectiveness in disseminating livestock information. Mixed method approach was the methodology used in the study whereby quantitative data was gathered using questionnaires while qualitative data was gathered using in-depth interviews and participant observations. Findings from this study revealed that livestock keepers had various information needs such as disease control (95.3%), nutrition and feeds (62.2%), markets (56.3%), housing techniques (29.1%) and loans (20.1%). Research priorities setting process for the National Library and Archives of the Islamic Republic of Iran is reported in this paper. Mixed methods of research have been used to collect and process the data. Producing of research topics and prioritizing them have been done by a Delphi panel of 46 experts that was formed via a targeted sampling. Using a content analysis method and ABC prioritization system, a two part list including 74 "important and urgent" and "important without urgency" research topics have been resulted. Connectivism provides a promising theoretical understanding of how libraries can use social media to engage in intentional information literacy education. The purpose of this paper is to review research in support of this claim and situate information literacy instruction through social media in connectivism’s theoretical framework. Using this model, those intending to use social media to teach information literacy must model good behavior, facilitate network growth, and help students build the capacity to consider a source's context and evaluate information critically in order to be successful. This paper examined reading habits of users as determinants of the utilisation of library information resources in two public libraries in South-west, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research method and utilized questionnaire to generate data for the study.

Five research questions were presented for the study. Pearson product moment correlation and regression analysis were used to test hypotheses one at 0.05 level of significance. The result shows that there is a significant relationship between reading habits of users and utilisation of information resources of the selected public libraries in South-west, Nigeria.

Detecting occupancy of seats in library is important for librarians to check seats’ usage, and for students to find available seats in crowded time. In our prior work [1], we presented in-lab micro benchmarks to show feasibility of capacitive sensing for seat occupancy detection. In this demo paper, we present larger scale real-world deployment of occupancy detection system and its performance.

This report analyses the 2007, 2010 and 2013 Staff in Australia's Schools (SiAS) survey results to produce profiles of primary and secondary teachers who are working in a library role. It compares the findings about numbers of teachers working in a library role with the overall teacher cohort in terms of location, school sector and socio-economic status of schools.
