End Of Program Assessments And Their Association With Early Career Success In Lis, Susan R. Rathbun-Grubb
End Of Program Assessments And Their Association With Early Career Success In Lis, Susan R. Rathbun-Grubb
Faculty Publications
Analyses of North American LIS program alumni survey data indicate that the completion of any end of program assessment (EPA) or capstone is associated with certain early-career success measures. Using data collected in the Workforce Issues in Library and Information Science 2 project (WILIS 2), we examined the type of EPAs (internships, portfolios, theses, etc.) completed by students and assessed whether there are relationships between their completion and the following outcomes: length of time to secure employment after graduation, acquisition of managerial or leadership roles, job/ career satisfaction, and participation in professional and leadership activities. We also assessed the graduates’ …

Decolonizing Our Library System: The Living Librarians (Baansi) Of Dagbon, Northern Ghana, Florence Dedzoe-Dzokotoe Plockey Mrs., Baba Alaa-Bany Ahamed Mr.
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The living librarians of Dagbon are knowledge producers who commit the history of Dagbon into memory and recount it from generation to generation. This study used various instruments such as in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, observations, storytelling, phased assertion, documents’ analysis, field notes, historical profiling, and acoustic appreciation to explore the living librarian of Dagbon in Northern Ghana. The data was collected from June 2013 to August 2014. The study revealed that there were various forms of livings libraries (baansi) also known as court musicians but most of the categories are now extinct. However, the most recognized and important …

Life In The Fishbowl, Brittany N. Barry
Blogging the Library
I was never quite certain what went on in those offices behind the glass windows on the second floor of Musselman Library, but two weeks into my Fortenbaugh Music Librarian Internship I am beginning to get an idea. After talking with some of the staff that work in the fishbowl I have gotten a glimpse at some of the goings on behind the scenes of the librarian. If you’ve ever wondered how all these books and resources came to be or how in the world you are able to find a single thing in this place (maybe with some assistance), …

Guide To The Tillinghast Family Collection, 1754-1892, Orson Kingsley
Archives & Special Collections Finding Aids
The lineage of the Tillinghast family in America begins with Pardon Elisha Tillinghast, who left England to settle in Providence, RI prior to 1650. His son Joseph [1677-1763] had a son, Nicholas, in 1726. This Nicholas was the first of three straight generations of the same name, with the latter becoming the first principal of the Bridgewater Normal School in 1840. Another son of Pardon Elisha Tillinghast was Pardon Tillinghast Jr. [1668-1743], who relocated to the East Greenwich, RI area. Many later generations of the Tillinghast family would remain in the East and West Greenwich area, which this collection largely …

The Anchor: 2016
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Information Needs And The Enhancement Of The Psychological Wellbeing Of Nigerian Prison Inmates, Helen U. Emasealu Dr. (Mrs)., S.O. Popoola
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
In every society, deviant behaviour is inevitable and, as a result of its adverse consequences, ought to be taken seriously. Nations have formulated rules and regulations which constitute the penal policies towards the administration and dispensation of criminal justice in the effort to punish as well as reform criminal-minded individuals. The provision of library information resources to cater for the information needs of prison inmates as reformatory tool for their psychological well-being during incarceration has not been given adequate attention in Nigeria prison system. A survey study with structured questionnaire was used to collect data on the sampled 600 prison …

Strengthening Archival Digitization Efforts With An Interdepartmental Approach: A Case Study, Jessica Hayden, Jane D. Monson, Emory J. Trask
Journal of Western Archives
This case study details how the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Libraries made the shift from a centralized model where digitization took place largely within the archives department, to a decentralized one that encompasses multiple library units. This shift came about as the result of the addition of a digital initiatives librarian position and the formation of a digitization steering committee comprised of employees representing different departments from throughout the Libraries. The result was a marked increase in the number of objects that could be digitized and made available online within a given period of time.
